Hey everybody! Another piece, this one depicting Flareon performing the move flame charge for Flareon day. This also gets into another topic I've wanted to talk about and never found a great opportunity to discuss. That being the different move pools from generation to generation, ability changes, stuff like that, particularly how they are going to effect the comics and such. As a general rule of thumb I am going to depict the Pokemon with the games mainly as my framework, as I always have. I consider the games the authority as far as lore and such goes over anything else as well. As such I do intend to keep tabs on changes like these. With that said I also want the characters to be flexible on what they can do and I'd also like to the story to be able to grow from the lore rather than be restricted by it. So in a scenario like this where the move depicted used to be teachable but isn't anymore, mainly I'm going to consider whether it makes sense for them to be able to get the attacks, abilities, etc reasonably. If so, than I don't mind them knowing them, if not than they wont.
As a general rule of thumb I want to depict the normal move pools a result of specific teaching method rather than a hard set like it otherwise appears to be. Which I dub the Red technique. This comes from idea Pokemon evolve at a certain level, learn moves at specific times, are able to learn some TMs and not others etc. There seems to be no exception for the player however NPC trainer Pokemon don't seem to follow these set rules (Pokemon knowing moves they can't otherwise learn, Pokemon being evolved when they're too low a level, etc. Even Wild Pokemon are in higher evolutionary forms sometimes at lower levels than they should be). The method the player uses is based on a training method developed by Red, which other protagonists studied and use themselves. It make sense they'd do that, especially considering how many Champions the method would have created. It also explain other game play changes we see from generation to generation, like Pokemon being able to learn moves they couldn't before or having access to evolution they didn't have access to before, etc. To describe it simply, Red's technique was studied by Gold, who implemented it in his own way, resulting in some variation on results. Brendan/May did the same thing and so forth. This also could explain new evolution that pop up later, why Move tutors are a thing, why these guys can teach moves that you can't get on them in any other way. I'm referring to it as the Red technique due to the original games being where a lot of this stuff comes from or is based on but it certainly could predate Red as well. Maybe something he studied himself or perhaps an older technique he brought back into popularity, something like that.

As for the characters of Solarshadow, they'll follow a similar set of rules with a similar variation in mind. So something like this, where Flareon could learn Flame Charge before but can't now will be addressed in this way. Solar is established to steal TMs to learn from and Flame Charge currently is still a TM even if it's not usable on Flareon anymore, so they can use those moves (as long as he has managed to get them) but in general they're hard for them to get so most of the time the TM/HM/TR moves are depicted as very special to the wild Pokemon cast whereas the Trainer owned characters don't think much of them. Move tutor moves require a teacher to teach them, egg moves require the correct parent, etc.
