Second version!The theme 'what is love' was really hard to capture. :[ But I knew I had to draw something because I just graduated from high school and the theme was strangely appropriate for this particular phase in life.
I think true love is when someone or something you cherish must leave your life or walk a different path, and you know that he/she/it will always be a part of you. It doesn't have to be your significant other, it can be your childhood, imaginary friend, family...etc.
Love is not always a sparkly shower of smiles, but the things and people you love will always support you in their own special ways. I tried to represent that through the rainclouds, umbrellas, and other symbols.

The winners reflect the simple and straightforward American romantic comedy while this is so much more creative and complex. I like your creative twists on common themes of love. I feel like if Studio Ghibli were making a movie called Paper Heart this would work great.

I like this version than the other even though I'm a fan of the color brown. The color choice here fits your definition of love.

I wish I was creative enough as a child to think of a bear, in a suit, wearing glasses and carrying an umbrella for an imaginary friend...
But I really get that feeling of innocent love in it's many forms from this picture. I feel that I can relate.
