Description
Part of the FlyByNight Video Challenge 2007. A 40hr video-making event, it was brilliant fun. My partner in crime isn't on deviantART, so this is on her behalf too!Quite amusing, really; our dv camera failed on us at 3am on the first night. That's when we decided to use stop-motion.
..thank heavens for faulty equipment, eh?
Music courtesy Engeo. Get the album here !
EDIT: Good lords, a DD! Totally stunned, but thank you. Yes, the leaving in of fingers might not have been the best of decisions, but it's the one we took. We're sending a cleaned-up copy of the film to the band (since they thankfully enjoyed it)!
RE-EDIT: Right. I foolishly thought I could comment on every one who fav-ed this, but... I CAN'T. I'm dying, folks! Really sorry to those whom I haven't got to. I really appreciate it! And I think I'll work my way down the list soon; there are some pretty awesome people on here.

This video is so charming! There's just something wonderful about those little green apples. A lovely and fun idea; I really enjoy how you made them move and dance.
I also like the choppiness and the way the lighting changes in every shot. I think it fits the tune of the song well.
It must've been interesting to film them crossing the street XD

I like it. I think that it's...well...for lack of a better word, cute. oddly.
And, for some reason, it makes me melancholy in feeling. I can't really explain it, but I had a dream once about something happy, but then it just kinda disturbed me so greatly that now I can only think of angst with something as simple as a smiley face. That's happened before, when I've gotten blood drawn or vaccines. It's really just...odd....it's like something in the pit of my gut that makes me want to curl up and cry in a corner. This stop-motion type thing gives me thta same feeling. LIke I want to laugh and cry at the same time. D: I really can't explain it....even if I'm slightly sadistic and like that odd painfulness. So sorry if you had to read this wall'o'text. But that's basically the sort of reaction I had..... 9:

Wow, this is really awesome.
The music is great, it fits so well. The stop motion is a lot of fun, it gives it a sort of whimsical feel.

This reminds me of a contact juggling move that's really cool (I saw it in the movie Labyrinth). Adds a little bit of a mystical element that I like with my animated fruits.

A minor quibble: I can see the sand moving around around the apples where you must've stepped/tried to smooth over to rearrange them. I mean, it's not that important and it might be a stylistic thing that you won't even care about it, but just thought I'd point it out.
I love, though, the way the apples don't make a perfect infinity sign.

I love the contrast of the apples to the sand in the middle of the night- the color/texture differences look really, really good.

That's awesome, I love seeing stop motion. I understand the hands in it part, that has happened to me too! So if your dv camera gave out did you use stills?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
podeam In reply to paperbackwriter391 [2007-12-15 06:06:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, the entire thing is stills; we re-shot the scenes that we had done with the wonky dv cam.
And thanks! It isn't very good stopmotion, but it has definitely inspired us to explore it more!

I agree. It doesn't have a pair, but it's still (seemingly) enjoying the night... Until the very end, of course. It almost seemed like it gave up/sacrificed himself to save the other pairs. Very touching.
