Description Evolutionary Chronicle - Nui-Rama

Nui-Rama are predatory flying insects which inhabit the rainforest and swamp regions of the Mata Nui continent. During the day, they fly in and above the forest canopy in search of suitable prey. At night or during a bad weather, when the temperatures drop, they rest in caves on cliffs or on the treetops, using their two rear pairs of legs as landing pads. Upon finding a suitable prey animal, a hungry Nui-Rama will swoop down, grasping its prey with its long forelimbs and stinging it with its long, proboscis-like mouth. Like their distant ancestors, the water bugs, Nui-Rama use their mouthpieces to inject their prey with their saliva. This serves a double purpose: the saliva quickly paralyzes the target, as well as liquefies its internal organs, allowing the Nui-Rama to suck out a partially-digested meal with little struggle. True to their semi-aquatic origin, Nui-Rama lay their eggs near the water's edge. The larvae then grow underwater as fully aquatic predators, leaving the water for good only upon reaching their adult stage. Nui-Rama are solitary animals by nature; although often seen flying or resting in groups, they have no social bonds. Unless provoked, a Nui-Rama would seldom attack an animal larger than itself.

Didn't the green one have 3 fingures on it's arms and 3 pincer thingies on it's face? *just wondering, great work btw*

Yes, it did.

I guess it must have been too much effort to put in that detail.Β  Either way, nice job.

Anyhow, hows Mandibles coming along?Β  I last heard that you needed to add a few maps to it before the next update.Β  I'm also curious as to what creature we'll face as the special final creature.Β  I'm also curious if I need the original game as well to play it or whether it isn't necessary. *I'd probably only do them if I get enough courage to do it or if there are safe spots I can shoot prey from without being killed like how there are for the Triassic's final creature, like one video showed* www.youtube.com/watch?v=G46iiO…

It wasn't so much a question of effort. Rather, I though it wouldn't make sense for the green Nui-Rama to have entirely different mouthparts from the orange if both are meant to represent the same species.

Regarding Mandibles: Right now it's taking a back seat to Carnivores+, but rest assured, I've got some great things planned for it. Won't say more than that- I don't want to spoil the big surprise!

I see.

Anyhow, I was wondering about that.Β  Another question I had: all of the creatures for Mandibles, according to the wiki, are all labeled "dangerous".Β  Is it basically "if you diss them, they'll attack you in self defense" deal for the herbivores?Β  If so, I can sorta see where you're taking it.Β  Regardless, keep up the good work.

The herbivores all react similarly to the Chasmosaurus in C2, to varying fight-flight ratios.

A flying waterbug based on an old Rahi figure? Okay, that is seriously awesome.

Thank you very much!
The Nui-Rama is my favorite design so far, and certainly the most challenging one. That toy does NOT look like a dragonfly...

You should be proud of it; the waterbug look was very clever. I figure the odd appearances of the early Bionicle toys was due to a lack of specialized parts, and it shows especially badly with the first Rahi. I'll never forget how goofy the Tarakava looked when I first saw it....

You make a good point; most of the early Bionicle sets used recycled pieces from Slizers/Throwbots and other Technic lines and this was especially evident with the Rahi. Even so, I always look back on them with nostalgic fondness. My organic redesigns of them, in a way, are part of that.

Indeed they did; sometimes I think Lego wasn't expecting Bionicle to take off like it did, hence why they didn't mold tons of new parts for the toyline when it first released.

Same here. They were a big part of my childhood and will always have a special place in my heart. It's good to see others looking back on them so fondly.

looks almost like a cross between a fly and a dragonfly
