Who is Sofie? I'm watching Carnivale, but I only have season 1. I've heard of something about maids being in his house... What do the maids do? Does he sleep with them or something?

I just finished watching the first season of Carnivale. I liked Brother Justin, and Sofie from the very beggining!
I like every single character, but I've always really liked these two(Samson also!)

Mind if I ask where this fanfic of yours is at? Because your art is most definitely compelling and has me curious about the story behind the image now, especially having only stumbled across the series on DVD recently and devoured it.
I must also gush over the color... I squee a little inside whenever someone manages to make something look so soft digitally: I know I'm completely inept at that, rofl.

re: soft coloring - Well, IIRC, other than the gradient shading, I also gave it a touch of the diffuse glow filter eventually. Also, I deliberately used a muted palette and put an overlay layer filled with a low saturated color (probably a greyish beige) in top of all the other layers, it really helps giving some chromatic consistency without losing vibrancy in your colors (you can do the trick with a "color" or a "multiply" layer as well, but they'd tone everything down).

Thanks for sharing, it's nice to know some of the tricks. I'm still pretty new to digital arts... when I see stuff like this I usually start thinking more in terms of light tea staining to age it and stuff like that. XD
Also thanks for the link, I've been a bit gnaw for anything Carnivale once I learned it was canceled. A good translation algorithm plus knowing that gender assignments when coming from both Italian and French are a bit screwy in English actually makes it pretty easy to read. Such a bloody shame HBO had to let it go.
BTW, I read through the entire "Table" and "Il male necessario" was my favorite
