Description
Another booklet for Kawaiikon!I loooove Japanese spitz! I Had one when I was a kid. They're simply the best. Smart, quiet, self cleaning (no doggy odor!) And no real health issues even though they're a pure bred dog because they're relatively new.
Gonna do mostly dog pokemon booklets since it's year of the dog!

Oh?! At first I was gonna say that it's such a cute American Eskimo, but then I read your description and even googled it and I'm stunned. They are certainly cute nonetheless though And I got to learn about another dog breed today

Yesss!
The other plus is that they don't have a "doggy" smell, even when they're wet. I never realized how pleasant my dog smelled compared to other dogs even though he was an outdoor dog.Β
I gotta keep hunting for one...

Honestly most people don't smell their own dogs though. I used to think the same thing about my poodle (no one in our household smells her) but appearantly one of my friends does find her to smell so I googled it and appearantly you get used to the smell of your dog, especially when you grow up with them as a kid...
Though I'd find it much nicer if what you say is true because the japanese spitz looks so incredibly cute and I want one
This is a bit of a random question by the way but I was wondering if you might know the difference between a lot of different spitz breeds? Pomeranian, japanese spitz, german spitz, american eskimo dog... I really want a white one,but they all look so alike and I'm a bit unsure what the differences are between them all. No worries if you don't know either by the way!

I notice our terrier mix has a smell... doggy smell and fritos. LOL.
We'll see when Soma arrives if they're as odorless as I remember.Β
The Japanese spitz was bred in the 1920's from a mix of German and Russian spitz.
The American Eskimo Dog was actually bred from German spitz as well in American and given it's name "Eskie" since at the time Germany was unpopular.Β
Pomeranians are from Germany too.
From my experience, Japanese spitz are more "family oriented" than all of the other spitz. They're very adaptable to weather change since Japan has cold winters and very hot and humid summers. They're about the same size as all of the other spitz, minus the pom. The pom is tiny.
I am biased to the breed but they're breeding pomsky dogs now -husky pomeranian hybrids to basically get the same personality and build as a Japanese spitz.
I can't really think of any cons to the Japanese spitz breed aside from the fact that they're NOT recognized by the AKC as they're supposedly too similar to the Eskies, white poms, and Samoyed. Personality wise though, they're very different. They do NOT require a lot of exercise but can easily keep up if you do have an active lifestyle. They're also very affectionate and were bred as companion dogs and they love to be around people! at the same time they do not express separation anxiety like other breeds. They typically don't turn to destructive behavior or whine and bark a lot. They tend to only bark when unfamiliar people are loitering around their homes. And they don't attack -they make great guard dogs to alert owners but they're not aggressive.Β
Note me if you want more on the breed! I spent almost $6000 just to have another one -but it is a 15 year commitment to have a dog and I figured I'd get the one I REALLY want.

Oh my! That's a lot of money... Hm, I'm 20 as of now and honestly, getting a dog in my life would be very very unresponsible in this stage of my life, I wanna make sure I can take care of it properly and atm where I am right now I can't. More looking out for the future, I've always dreamed of having a dog like this and figured you can't do too much research haha
Thank you so much for the detailed response, this helped out a bunch! I'm considering getting one to be honest, thanks to you. It's a bit of a small additional question but is the shedding very bad? Like I mentioned before, we have a poodle (AKA no shedding at all) and my mom always warns me that shedding of spitz like breeds is pretty heavy and that you have to vacuum clean/brush all day to keep your house even a little bit clean. I don't mind a little fur though and shedding doesn't bother me too much but I was just wondering how extreme it is/isn't. thank you so much again!!

Yes, of course!
When I was 20 I had chinchillas instead! So now that I'm 28 and can afford to support a dog I'm finally going to finalize my unrequited love for this breed!
And YES they do shed a lot. However, it is only twice a year and the Japanese spitz in particular does not need a lot of grooming. their coats are described as teflon, mud and dirt just wick off, making them odor free. It is recommended to brush once a week and bathe no more than once a month. AND when they shed their fur clumps up in big balls so it's not like other shedding breeds. It bunches up like piles of gathered wool -easy clean up! Β

I love corgis too! But Japanese spitz are my favorite dog. They're wonderful pets and have very few health issues for pure breds. <3
