Description Just a sketch I guess that I just finished. I've been picturing Nabari in this pose ever since I thought up her new outfit. I'm pretty proud of how it came out overall but the anatomy is a bit off and her right foot bothers me>.>

I had to use like several references to get that pose. As you can see the normally stoic Nabari seems to be quite angry towards someone. Iunno. The lines and shading are pretty light since I was using a sketchbook. Every time I bring my knees up so the sketchbook is vertical with me the pages kinda slide down which is annoying. I may color this up digitally some time later when I have the time for it. Any who I hope ya'll like this little sketch of her^w^

this is a pretty cool sketch, I was like huh they look just like sakura! and i looked--and yeah heavily referenced or basically copied...it just bothers me when people say they referenced something when i looks partially traced/copied. thats not referencing. sindarfrom.files.wordpress.com…

If that's what you think then fine by me. I won't argue with you but I will say this. I don't lie and if you're not going to say anything useful about my art then please don't say anything at all. Thank you for the sarcasm and have a lovely day.

useful? i would help if you'd like, and sorry if I came off as sarcastic, i thought it was neat and looked like sakura, and I was correct. now you being sarcastic at me is just annoying. I will enjoy my day regardless if it is lovely or not.

Holy cow!  This is very impressive progress you've made with your own artwork!    Even if the anatomy is off by a little bit in a few areas, I still like how it came out~  References are very helpful, and we all use them to improve our own work  Awesome job!  Keep up the good work~

Aw thanks love! Hmm do you think you could give me a few pointers? I know the anatomy is wrong here and there but I can't pinpoint where.

Ok then.  I'd be happy to.  First off, the fist that is being thrown as a punch, it looks a little small for the foreshortened view.  If you were to take the fist you have now and blow it up a little bit more so that it looks bigger than the forearm in the back, then it'll give the fist more of an impact to the drawing and make it easier to distinguish that it's in front of the forearm.  The fist isn't bigger than the face, and that's good too.  Don't want to make the fist too big or else it looks unproportionate to the face, unless the fist was in front of the face, then it would have to look bigger.

Now then, the leg she is standing on looks good, but some areas to improve would be between the foot and the knee.  It looks like her shin bone is poking out a bit too far and makes it look like her leg is a bit broken.  A way to fix that would be to straighten out of the lower half of the leg so that the skeletal frame of the human body lines up.  Remember to visualize the human skeleton during action scenes so that when you draw out the body parts, they don't look like they are about to break.  Now here's the thing, this is still ok because some people have drawn art styles in which action scenes would have human bodies parts and limbs stretch in an interesting way that doesn't look normal in order to add more impact to the action and that's fine.  If that's your style, then go with it.  This piece of advice you can just make it a suggestion.

Now the leg that is up, her boot looks like it's hitting her butt a bit.   But don't worry, because foreshortened views of running characters coming towards the screen are difficult sometimes.  But just for future references, you want to draw the leg a bit down away from the crotch area.  You can try for yourself by standing on one leg and then lift your other leg up.  Keep your knee right where it is, and then turn and look behind you and look at where you foot is.  Notice how your foot, by itself, isn't touching the back of your butt or crotch area.  That's because by itself, the leg muscle only voluntarily moves that far because the muscles will only stretch that far by itself.  Now the foot can touch the butt or crotch area if you try to stretch it (for example like cheerleaders do when they warm up) by holding it close to your body.  Then the foot can touch, but not by itself (unless you are really really really really really flexible.  I know there are a few people that can have their foot do that by itself without them touching it).

And that reminds me, that some professionals actually do draw legs that bend all the way back and have the foot touching the back of their legs when they are running or standing on one leg or kicking, and if that's your style, then it's fine because other professional artists draw the leg bending up like that as well.  That was just my advice on making the movements look more realistic.  Also, try to foreshorten the lower half of the leg so that it looks smaller than the knee and thigh up front when the leg is lifted off the ground, because the leg is behind her, so the foot and shin would be a bit smaller from a camera angle point of view.

I would recommend reading this book "Ultimate Manga Lessons Volume 5 The basics of portraying action".  This book helped me a lot when drawing action scenes and shows fighter stances and even how people fight with weapons and how the body proportions look.  Now this is just my critique, so take it like you would a grain of salt.  And remember, everyone has a different art style and different ways of drawing body proportions that identifies the artist as who they are.  As long as you find what body proportion style you like that identifies with your own art and how you draw, then it doesn't matter if a few things look out of proportion  Hope this helps~    Keep drawing!  I want to see more action poses~

Yes action is fun~    Sorry for all the writing I did  I tend to do that often when I need to remember to keep my point short~
