Description Another of my Favorite Winter Trees from Manayunk, some of these trees date back to the early 1700's, that's just amazing to me, and they resonate with a power and wisdom to me that is humbling. Hand Manipulated Polaroid Time Zero Photo, No Photoshop Used.

For me, this is an wonderful example of PolaroidVanGough's work, an excellent melding of subject matter and technique. The natural randomness of the tree branches goes perfectly with the busyness of the manipulation style.

Particularly effective is the way the manipulation breaks up the colors in the emulsion, creating the white highlights that transform what should be the deep background of the sky into a foreground surface, on the same plane as, and sometimes even in front of, the tree itself.

I also appreciate how the "hand of the artist" is so clearly visible in a *photographic* image. This serves as a reminder not only of the Impressionist style, from which the artist takes inspiration, but of parts of Impressionist philosophy, of a more humanist, individualist approach.

The image is not about the mechanics and chemicals of the photographic process. It's not about "science". The Artist himself is essential to the final work, turning a recording of a scene (as nice a composition as it would have been unmanipulated) into a piece of Art.

What a wonderful thing to wake up and see this lovely critique I respect Keiths opinion and love the originality of his own work, so it's an honor to have such a nice review of my work by him I Love the last paragraph especially, He is right on track with the statement saying it's not about the mechanics or chemicals of the photograph, or even the science, it's all about what the Artist can do with that science to make it Art. Thanks so much Keith

It's as if the wisdom is visually radiating from it through the texture that you added to it.
