I've started a non profit organization a while ago, Freezing Moon (www.FreezingMoon.org). I'm developing free open source cross platform games along with a few buddies I've met online. My take on improving linux for the desktop. I'm about to graduate, so I'll be working full time soon on the foundation and projects.
We could use someone like you in the team, I was thinking for quite a long time now to ask you...
Your work will be credited, you can gain more popularity and exposure contributing to something 'bigger' and given enough time, you'll be able to make some pocket money as well.

1. We're working on 2 very different projects.
Ancient Beast - MMO RPG RTS
Dark Shift - Multiplayer FPS
You can find out more about them over here [link] (as I wrote part of the game/technical design documentation for each, I'm writing on them constantly...).
2. You could design all sorts of icons we'll need, for the 9 realms of Ancient Beast, or for creatures spells and abilities and other stuff like that (yesterday I did some initial work on the damage&resistance types icons and I'm still far away from something cool looking).
3. We'll receive donations and sponsorship with time for sure as the organization's success is of interest to a lot of people. We'll also have the shop ready in the following months and be able to sell dvd's, posters and other items.
A more rapid way for artists to money atm would be by making nice stuff for us and sell prints over dA, the idea is that the artist is allowed to use the name/logo of the project as well as existing characters etc as long as he allows certain licensing for the artwork to Freezing Moon (I'll be writing more about that in the workflow documentation). Here's an early example of that [link] (lacking branding atm since our logos are not quite finished yet).
So no matter what, this should be a win-win situation for everybody
We can get in touch over some IM protocol and talk more and hopefully get it started if you wish so.
