I usually don't comment on daily deviations seeing as they usually get 9404392 comments and whatever I have to say has probably already been said but regardless of my usual commenting routine:

Why? Ok, I give you my interpretation of it.
First, you have to know that it is very easy in photography to make a very complicated composition, with strong contrast and too much saturated colors. Such photographs flattered the eyes but generaly comes with a lack of meanings in it. In other hand, it's very hard to do a look like very simple shot that tells a story about lilfe reaching the heart of anyone. The seeming simplicity of this shot help to focus only on what it tells.
You may say, but that's only an old woman doing a nap. And I may say on Cartier-Bresson's photographs "Hey! But that's only people walking on the street !!". But then I just miss something.
You see, this shot gives very lots of informations that I can interpret in different layers. I know that's an old woman not only because I've read it on the artist's comment. I see her arms and I know. Then I see the horizon, the clouds. I may say "I'm happy that she spend her time to take advantage of the point of view !" And that's all. But there is a chain-link fence between her and the horizon, between her and the liberty to really take advantage of the point of view.
So I asked to myself why she didn't walk a bit to pass behind the fence.
Then I understand the shot. That's an old woman, she may be tired to walk, she may be can't have big walk anymore. The fence is a metaphor for the lack of liberty that has old people. She may stay her home without monving, but she still say "No!" she resist. There's a fence? She doesn't care. She takes advantage of what it left in her life... the sun... the clouds... the nap... anyway. She's free in her mind.
So yeah, the photographer deserves a DD. You may have taken thousands of shots making a lucky one as good as this one. But I take time to see the photographer's gallery and I know that's not a lucky shot. And I really like the meaning I explain to you in this one.
