You really improved with the shading on the foal's coat.

I use an actual picture of a horse and go step by step the lighting and shades. It's obviously not the same pic of the foal. I search a pic on dA or google and use it. That's my technique. I've also made the opacity lower on my airbrush. That has helped in preserving my sketchy lines.
