my thoughts on what Mimikyu looks under the costume. I think maybe Mimikyu is a phantom pikachu who was neglected by its owner,and when it was time for the pikachu to pass on,its spirit is still around and becomes a shadowy dark figure of a pikachu. The reason for it to appear is that it wishes to find what its liked to be loved by a owner and whenever it looks at a pikachu with its owner having a time of there lives,it grew with jealousy and wanted to have the life as that pikachu had,but it knows about its condition and had to change its whole look so it wouldn't frighten the trainer so it had to make a costume that looked like a pikachu so that maybe if they looked like a pikachu they will get the same love as they do.
