I think the comic version expanded on that and explained that he won the brawl and he was gonna get Astrotrain to turn around before Starscream sucker punched him.

He actually was forced into it. If he became leader in that fight, he'd order Astrotrain to turn his tailpipe around and get Megatron.

Actually, Soundwave wanted to become leader so he could force the others to go back for Megatron. Guess he didn't try to stop them kicking Megatron out of Astrotrain because he knew he'd probably end up joining his leader if he tried.

I wondered about that too. Soundwave take Megatron to safety from the battle and not caring that Starscream throw Megatron out of Astrorain... Β MAKE UP YOUR MINDS WRITER OF THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE!!

See, I kinda thought SW's logic was that sure Megs would get thrown outta the train, but he'd be surrounded by lots of spare parts and nobody trying to kill him while he floated. Eventually Megatron would repair himself, head back to Cybertron, and of course need someone on the inside to help him get back to power. But then Unicron kinda came outta left field.

I just think that he's an oldschool opportunist. Saving Megatron would save him from Megatrons wrath, in case Megatron would made it to full health on Cybertron. But Soundwaves own health was put to danger when Astrotrain made clear he won't make it to cybertron with so many mechs on board. So Sounders chose to ditch Megatron because he'd rather save himself.

G1 Should have made you a lot smarter like in most TF shows. :T (Funny thing is when I saw this, a event on Transformers Legends was being based on this episode when some of them got thrown out and Unicron took them in as Galavatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, etc. What a big coincidence. Β x3)

That is what makes me wonder. He followed and listened to Starscream throughout that whole show yet the one time Soundwave could have done the greatest of good he just does NOTHING.
