Description
so i know that this is a bunch of pictures and i'm truly sorry about that, but since i don't have photoshop on my macbook pro i wasn't able to add text. so ill just type it here again i'm sorry of the inconvenience (and i would have tried to write it all with my table but it you look at the numbers that i attempted to put, they don't look very good)directions:
1. first pick the colors of wool that you'll be making your turtle out of
2. take about this much wool of the color you're using to make the head (for me green)
note: this is just an estimate you don't have to be exact
3. now wrap the wool around your pointer finger to get a shape for the head then just slide it off and start stabbing it with your barbed needle (i'm sorry i was going to put a picture of the needle of hopefully you get the idea). just keep stabbing the wool until it starts to take the shape of a turtle head
4. so the head should be a skinnier as it get closer to the end of the neck
note: keep it a little fuzzy at the end of the neck to make it easier to connect to the body later
5. take about this much wool for the body and wrap it around your pointer finger like i did in step 3. i'm using the same color wool for the body and the head
6. stab the wool with your needle until it makes a ball about as long as the head and try not to make it to big because later you'll be putting the shell around it
7. take about small amount of a lighter tan/brown for the underside of the turtle (this step is optional because typically you wont see the belly)
8. when making the bottom just keep the wool between your thumb and pointer finger and just keep stabbing it until it makes a disk thats not to thick or thin. once you've made this disk make little dents in the sides for a place to attach legs once this piece is attached to the body. to do this just keep the little disk between your fingers and stab your needle into the corners to make a little U's
9. take about this much wool for the top of the shell (i'm using a dark brown)
10. do the same thing you do for the underside of the turtle but don't make the dents into the sides.
11. now attach the top of the shell to the body. when doing this making sure not to attach the entire shell (leave the edge unattached to make it look more like a shell) be sure to stab the piece well so that it doesn't fall off
12. now attach the bottom of the shell try to make sure that the only places that should be green are where your going to attach the legs, head, and tail (if you choose to make one)
13. so this is what the body should look like so far
14. now we are going to make the eyes. for this you just take a little bit of black wool and roll it between your fingers then you attach them to the head (you can make them as big or small as you want it doesn't really matter)
15. now attach the head to the body like so (this is where the keeping the end of the neck sorta fuzzy comes in handy)
16. now make four legs for your turtle (make these the same way as the head)
17. now attach all of the legs and if you made a tail attach that too (as you can see i didn't make a tail in this tutorial but its really easy. all you have to do is grab a small amount of wool, same color as the body and head, and roll it in your fingers and stab it with your needle to make the shape you want. then just attach it the same way you're attaching the legs and head)
18. this is how my turtle looks with his legs attached
19. to make the...shapes on his back just grab a little bit of black wool or you can you black thread (either work) and attach it until you make a circle
20. how it should look after step 19
21. this part is a little bit trickier because the middle shape isn't a circle but a hexagon (6 sides figure) just do your best and if you want you can always make an easier shape
22. for the last step all you do it attach a little bit of wool for all of the corners of the hexagon (or whatever shape you made) and attach them to the outside circle you make in step 19
so this is what the original looks like [link]
and congratulations you've made a turtle!!
