Description
Here, the pregnant woman holds within her a womb, which is really a butterfly cocoon. Out of her mouth, the butterflies are released. This third piece in the series incorporates a book that I created that sits on the floor in front of the woman, surround by the butterflies. The book is entitled,
Power: Releasing/Regaining
“Through the Voices of Women”
The book includes submissions by women of all ages from around the United States as well as several different countries. I communicated with each of the women personally through e-mail and airmail. Each response was to a call for submissions that I posted on the Internet or verbally asked for. The call for submissions was for a persona reflection or response to the idea of women’s ongoing struggles and inequality in society. I asked for their own experiences and stressed my hope for responses that dealt with any kind of “loss of power,” or “regaining of power,” whether physical or emotional. In result, dozens of women wanted to be involved and take part in the releasing of negativity by contributing stories, ideas, poetry and artwork. Through this project I have been able to emotionally connect with incredible women whom I never would have been able to converse with otherwise. Many of these women have shared with me personal words that they have never shared with anyone else. This act of sharing and connecting created a cohesive strength and bond that can be formed when enough people believe in something.
The handmade book includes 42 of the submissions I have collected.

Thanks so much! I am submitting it to an exhibition that will be focused on women and the current feminist art movement. I am really hoping it will be accepted so I could share this with more people. I'll let you know!

I added this to my favourites because of how good it is and the story behind it and all the effort that went into it.
