Description
So I was talking with this guy once who found my 'So You Want To Be Realistic' poster. He told me how 'Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' used such a weight system. It took me several weeks, but in the last week I finally got bothered to actually find an image (having never played 'Oblivion' before).I think I'm finally figuring out what the appeal of 'Call of Duty' is: to the moronic masses who have never actually seen a soldier or a military base in real life, 'Call of Duty' is a juvenile war fantasy. If they were given an actual firearm, you can bet that they'd blow their own nuts off in the same moment if they haven't done so before. It's not a matter of realism; it's a matter of being a soldier of war with a gun being incredibly- I use the following word insincerely due to it conflicting with my actual definition of the word- badass and killing everyone. For any of you morons who actually took the time out to read this, even I will pray for your health if you actually hold such views in front of your superior officer, and I will pray doubly so if you voice those views.
The fact that the game is set in the real world doesn't matter; 'Call of Duty' fans are (I imagine) also fond of 'Mass Effect' because the gameplay is similar; hide behind walls (like a soldier), kill anything that pops out to look at you (like a soldier), proceed (like a soldier). Games like 'Serious Sam' and 'Painkiller' are in no way the same as you can jump very high, run while gunning and not looking down the sights and carry seven billion weapons. Also, you're likely to get savaged by a bunch of extremely strong enemies at once (this has doomed me several times in Sam Stone's first adventure). 'Call of Duty' players don't want to be superhumans; they want to be soldiers.
EDIT: Well, booger. I forgot to mention the actual weight mechanic in the poster. What a doofus I am! Well, I was originally gonna go for:
~~~
IN A WORLD OF MAGIC, TRANSVECTION, INVISIBILITY AND THUNDERBOLTS, ALL TRIGGERED THROUGH FORCE OF WILL...
Weight physics still apply, sucker
~~~
... but the title became much too small. So I went with this instead.

Good to know I'm not the only one who isn't brainwashed into thinking COD is the only game that should exist ever. Plenty of other non-FPS shooters out there.

I just casual enjoy the Modern CoD games as military fantasy shooters where it looks realist but it really isn't. Also Serious Sam FTW!

I prefer Spec Ops: The Line by leagues and miles. As for not-war shooters, I like Painkiller.
You know what'd be nice? A guilt-free sci-fi old school FPS. We need more light-heartedness these days.

I played a demo of Spec Ops and it was really good. I should get that game some day.
I wholeheartedly agree. I think the last one was Bulletstorm which was pretty good.

The demo doesn't do The Line justice. You need the full game.
Eh, not particularly. It had a lot of ideas but it never really used them.

Thats something I never understood, how is being a regular soldier "better" than being superhuman?

I guess it's because being a soldier's more plausible than being a superhuman and we have some wish fulfilment.

I can fix that. lol, that's why gamers created the ultimate fail known as cheat codes. Although, nice point about weight physics.

Gamers didn't create cheat codes. Game developers did. Back in the day, there weren't save points. Example: Every time you die in Super Mario Bros, you start back at the beginning of the game. The developers made cheat codes so that testers could test the whole game without needing to restart every five minutes. One is when you die in SMB, hold select and press A and you'll start at the beginning of the world you're on instead of going back to World One. Which is also what the Warp Pipes are for at the end of 1-2. They can send you to the next four worlds. Made for testing the end of the game. Cheats on PC are just people going in and screwing with the original code.

Okay, I probably haven't expanded on this as much as I should, but I'll explain now:
In Call of Duty (technically, Halo did it first but whatever), you can only hold two weapons. While this sounds realistic in theory, it doesn't make sense in practice. Want to carry a Javelin and an RPG-7? Go right ahead. An assault rifle and a shotgun with a pistol as an emergency backup weapon? Well, screw you and your ambition; you can only carry two weapons are you are going to like it. The problem is that two handguns apparently as heavy and space-consuming as a Javelin and an RPG-7. At least in the Elder Scrolls series, an egg is as heavy and large as an egg and a sword is as heavy and large as a sword.
Make sense?

Just for reference, 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution' had a much better system. Yes, you apparently have the carrying and transporting ability of a mover truck but if you wanted to implement it into your game just reduce the size of the field.
Alternatively, organise weapons into specified slots; a backup handgun weapon (for SMGs, pistols, etc), a main weapon (anything that isn't a Javelin or some other massive weapon) and a secondary weapon. The thing is that you can only switch between the main weapon and secondary weapon. If you lose one or the other, the backup weapon takes it's place. Also, if you have a Javelin or something, it takes up both your main weapon and secondary weapon slots until you ditch it. However, you will ALWAYS have your pistol. Yes, I know this is kind of arbitrary but it's definitely better than the system we have now.

Assassin's Creed? Well, I felt that it was arbitrary that you could carry 500,000 florins, 15 cracking parachutes and only 3 god damn smoke bombs, but oh well.
As for the story... well, watch the Spoiler Warning: Assassin's Creed II videos here: [link]

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; we all have our fantasies and video games help us to live them out. Judging by your avatar, I imagine it would be quite the fantasy to have a weapon that could be stored in hyperspace to call into your hand in a flash of light and go through monsters (literally) like tissue paper (not literally). My fantasy is to be a Power Armor-wearing JC Denton who is actually skilled in Batman: Arkham Asylum-esque CQC.

A game(while still not fully realistic) that adopts weight is combat arms. While they don't have a weight total indicator like the image, each item has weight which effects ur movement speed and stamina. Heavier guns slow u down and light weight guns don't effect you much at all. Same with equipment like vests. The heavier the vest the less stamina and speed u have etc etc. They even do recoil and spread well, unlike some shooters.
