Description
This is one picture that doesn't do the piece justice. I need to take better pics. This was my final project last quarter in my metals class. It resembles the first chakra or root chakra which allows us to be grounded and connected with the earth and empower our being. Garnet is associated with the Root Chakra. Along with garnet, I used sterling silver, brass and copper in this piece. It also has a hinged door in the back which I need to photograph.Related content

Yes,
Please re-photograph.
If you use a digital camera ,put it on the macro setting (if it has it).And shoot the piece outside on an OVERCAST day which will limit highlights and give a truer richer color.
Damn fine piece Kiddo.
The integrated use of mixed metals, plus the composition of the shapes, one within the other, make this a superior work.
You are young to show this much talent and expertise so early.Have you given a thought to a career in metalwork and/or jewelry ?

HELLO! Its been a long while since ive been back on this sight. Thank you so much for the tips, I am just starting to photograph my newer work for scholarships and then I will post the pics. I really appreciate your appreciation of my work, I really love your work, it is really great to hear your feedback. I have to say I have a hard time putting myself in the career state of mind in general, but I will surely continue my artistic endeavors in any way that pleases me at the time. I have stopped doing metal for a bit as i am very preoccupied with school and don't have access to a studio, but am hoping to get back into it soon. Mostly I feel the urge to try large scale metal or woodworking. Even with my paintings I have always kept things small. I am also becoming more practical and am trying to find ways to incorporate my creativity into more 'useful' objects. Anyway, it is INCREDIBLY reaffirming to hear these things from you, thanks, there will be pics sooooooon

Exactly a year since I left that comment...
How weird is that?
Well,
all I can say is you better be in a school that has a decent art program...
As I said, you have precocious art talent, but maybe you have other marketable skills that would make a better career I don't know. But you can always use the making of Art to balance out whatever it is that you choose to make a living at. It'll help to keep you sane in the long run...LOL

ha, thats pretty great,
ya, my school has a decent art programs, but since my school doesn't have majors I haven't had to settle down on one thing so I have been all over the place in my studies. Trying to see all sides of one crazy reality. I don't think I could just do work for money, or even just my own enjoyment, without knowing that I am doing something to help our rather fucked up society. I am really trying to find a way to incorporate all of my interests into a big plan! but I know I will have to face a different world soon after college. As for now art has been CERTAINLY been keeping me sane. Is being an artist for a living work out well for you? I guess I always saw that as unrealistic, but you are quickly changing my mind!

Yes,I encourage you to be "all over the may". Try everything ,and what suits your needs and wants ,try TWICE...LOL.
Is the art career working for me?
HMMM good question.
It hasn't worked very well as far as money goes in the past 18 months ,but that is actually improving slowly.
But I'm one of those people that finds it nearly impossible to work for anyone else.
I go and come as I please, work all night or not at all,go to the beach when I want.
My quality of life is pretty good even without benefits or retirement.I have plenty of space around me(VERY IMPORTANT) and am surrounded by beauty...
so yeah,I guess it IS working for me...LOL
I was at a private reunion last night of my dear roommates from college (1977)
And it was really fantastic to see what we've all become. I'm the only one without kids...LOL. By choice. Children are icky.LOL

haha, it sounds like you have too much peace in your life to want a kid.ahh yes space, so necessary. I too have been blessed with a forest to roam and a big space of my own. Really good for the head!Hey, if you have food to eat, a place to live, and can be in nature, then things are working out quite well.
That is also probably why your art continues to be so inspired...you are working for yourself and from the heart!
Ill keep checkin out your stuff and ill be back with more soon!
