I haven't lost my long-standing passion for IR, it just doesn't get "exercised" every day.
Wonderful image...interesting tree!

the black, white and silver colours of this image mixed with the blue of the horizon sky makes for a very appealing image.
may I ask how you obtained the blues with infrared? is it a post-process filter package?
I love the shape of the tree and the solitude surrounding it. The entire execution is very well done.

Thanks
Post processing is pretty straight forward for the most part. I use a couple of different programs and to be honest I can't recall which I used on this.
Most applications can't handle the custom white balance I use when shooting IR, however I have discovered that dcraw does. Unfortunately dcraw is merely a command-line RAW conversion program, so any real post-processing is done in Photoshop after conversion in dcraw. When using dcraw + custom white balance, I simply use grass/leaves to set the grey point and the resulting image is mostly shades of blues and greys.
Alternatively I use Photoshop and perform a channel swap with the red and blue channels, but I find this tends to give more cyan results and further colour work with hue/saturation etc is usually required to get the desired result.
Hrm... well, that sounds more complex than it is, but yes. Hope that helps

thanks so much for the lesson. a linux based program, huh? regardless of the process, the result is quite beautiful.

Oh wow, wonderful photo! :] I love the colour of the background, and the leaves of the tree looks really lovely. Nice camera positioning.

Nah, this is a different tree, I've never photographed that one before that day... WP (Wellington Point) was revisited, not the tree
