Snowspell was born to a family of Pegasus ponies in the village of Cloudsdale. Due to a throw back in gene's from generations previous, she was born a Unicorn. Throughout her school days she was picked on by others because of this. It was embarressing for her. Epsecially when her younger brother Frost was born a Pegasus. She resented him for not being different like her because he just made her feel more of a freak. Her parents had to carry her to and from school so she would not get stuck between clouds.
One day when she was a filly, an old pony spotted her. She told her that being different was not something to be embarrassed about. And that it made her special. This wise ponies name was SnowDrop. Snowdrop helped her as she learned to use her magic to make her life easier. She manipulated the wind to hover her until she was strong enough to get all over Cloudsdale without the help of her parents. She used her magic to replicate SnowDrops winter stars, and this is how she earned her cutie mark.
Later she observed her brother being picked on by other fillies and colts. He was not such a young colt anymore but still could not fly. In him, she saw herself when she was a Filly. Alone and afraid. She began to practice with him. Using her magic to lift him into the air as he tried to fly, until his wings got stronger and he was able to hover by himself.

Despite finding her place in her town, she longed to travel and meet more ponies like her. She left Cloudsdale and began her journy. Meeting new friends along the way.
