....and we have to remember that according to the Hearth's Warming story, Pegasi are a militant race, a population of warriors similar to the Spartans, so this acually really makes perfect sense. Derpy's not just protecting her daughters, there's that Pegasi trait that is in every Pegasus--the blood of a warrior--and that has been ticked once her girls are in danger...
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but I'm pretty sure a pissed-off mother is pretty damn close...
