Description While the mermaid request waits for me to return to my desktop, might as well make a small anim for the newly organized profile page
I really need to standardize my chibi proportions. Maybe these will work and maybe not. I may experiment with some proportions tomorrow, just to see how far I can push it and still keep it to my style requirements.
And it's hot cocoa, not coffee, just so there isn't any confusion

Tho I'd suggest you experiment a bit with your eye design, maybe do some eye studies. Just so you can make more diverse and natural (tho stylized) eyes.

Eyes are the last thing I would want to expand extra energy on, and would just prefer to make everyone have One Piece eyes or One Punch Man Β eyes.
I have one method of a higher level eye Β which I use sometimes, but find eye quality usually irrelevant. I would rather try and figure out some eye shapes and facial expressions instead, and I think I had some success here , but keeping it consistent for the same character can be a challenge.
This video Β had me thinking a lot in that regard. Eyes are a thing to consider when thinking of anime designs, and I want to explore the concept more, but I think it's more about general character design techniques rather than eye study.
I am aware the problem is more prominent when I improvise a character design and try to keep it around, while there are characters that surfaced separately that already have similar designs going, as was with the tentacle gir l compared later to Sherry and Maya .
And I am also aware that many chibi designs are all about the eyes, and that's causing my designs not to stand out in that regard
I will probably dive into general experimentation after the current request is done, since that is the next bigger thing to worry about on the todo list.

While I take the whole "eye studies" thing back. But...
I still think you should try doing some skull, face muscle and just general face studies. Your faces are definitely not terrible, but you can do better, especially with expressions, and studies like that are indeed perfect for it. While your style is anime-ish and not realistic, (many) wise men once said: "You got to know the rules before you break them."
Also, there's a whole chapter about expressions in Making Comics , a book made by Scott McCloud.

I studied faces before, skulls and muscles and regular people, but I have been breaking them way too much since then, so I may need to take a step back and refresh on some rules.
Whenever I tried to implement some rules, and add, like, a skull to an anime character for reference, it always just breaks too much, since they are made of... style over substance in that regard xD
But a study of some humans may be a good idea for a refresher, actually, now that I have tons of experience in other areas. I may be able to notice some things I couldn't before.
