Defiantly going to try out the 3 layer technique. I usually only do two. Sketch bottom and outline top. I love the shading coloring tips too. I usually use an orange-y color for the shading (overlay it). I'll try a more red color. See how it works. This is so awesome of you to do!

I really love this tutorial! I noticed you had different skin shades and things... Do you have any suggestions about native american skin colouring? I was wondering where that might fall into your spectrum.

For me, I mostly draw traditionally and whenever I have to do lineart that is where I mess up^^' I could be drawing a nice straight line and then bam! my hand goes another direction and so the nice refined sketch I drew before han stars changing-_- I'm beginning to mess up with the colors I choose as well
When it comes to digital, I have a sense of what layers are supposed to do but then i'm still confused af xD

For the digital lineart: If you have a long line, like thigh line, do it very fast. In the begining it won't be accurate but that's what for you have edit>undo shortcut. For shorter and more curvy lines draw slower, one line almost on another, like you want to push existing one forward. That's hard to explain using words
For layers:
Layer 1 - geometric sketch, refined sketch
Layer 2 - lineart above Layer 1. After linearting hide Layer 1.
Layer 3 (drag it under the lineart)- base color (no shading, flat colors)
Layer 4 (above Layer 3, under Layer2) - shading
Layer 5 lighting
That's a simple set of layers for one character.
