I wasn't sure on the catagory...This is something that has been in the works in my head for a few years. I have always wanted to take the sprites from a Mario game and turn them into an abstract piece like this.
Because of legality reasons I probably won't be able to offer these as prints, even though I really REALLY want to, hell, I made it at 16x20", 300 dpi. I am awaiting a response from Nintendo on that, but if anyone has any insight into that please contact me.
This will be one in many more to come.

If you look closer you'd realize this image is stylized and not horrible at all. Not to mention he has a 300 dpi version.

Great abstract piece!
but you could even do better when saving this as a .TIFF I think..
oh and offcourse you can sell it XD, maybe ill buy one!
However I have some crits..
I think you should learn some dithering, its pretty much needed when making a large piece like this.. also the outline of the large Mario could be AA'd, its really squairy now..
But overall, it RSOUCKS!

Thanks for your comments. And yeah the outline of the large Mario has a little aliasing going on. I will fix that. I must have overlooked that while I was working on it zoomed out at 15%.

You haven't even been active in this community for 1 year, larw-ck barely for 6 months.
I am not trying to be a pixel artist. If you look at my gallery you would see that. Don't let the fact that I used sprites in my piece make you think I am trying to present myself as a pixel artist.

Larw-Ck is not a DA person, his art experience is way longer than his time on deviant art. Mine isnt so what you said about me is true.
Also, you are not the 'noob' type, when viewing your responses etc, you actually talk like a great artist.
So why I find you a noob:
Because of the art you did make.. Mario fan art can be good, can be bad. but just enlarging sprites is not something very special.. you did not spend ages on it, put your artistic instinct in it, and mailing Nintendo is noobish aswell.
I know its not pixel art, but as being one (and that goes for metaru and larwick aswel), we think that Resizing old sprite isnt a great thing..
It really sucks compared with your other artwork..

Thanks for your intelligent response. Just to set the record clear though, I did quite a bit more than just simply resizing sprites. If you look at the detail shot I saved for Metaru ([link] ) you can see that there is a little bit more going on than just resizing.
But regardless, your opinion of my piece is appreciated, good or bad. Not everything I make is going to please everyone and I understand that.

are those dirty specs on the sprites intentional? also, you saved it as a JEPG! you never save Sprites as JPEgs because its compressor ruins the colors of the sprites. if you're going to use a gradient, like the one at the background, at least save it as PNG.

Metaru, yes, the grungy dirty specs are intentional. Have a look at my other work, you will see that it is sort of my trademark style. And I beg to differ with you about using JPG as opposed to PNG, this was saved from a very larger 300 dpi image with a JPG quality level of 12, which is why the image is 600+kb in size. Looking at the original PSD file in Photoshop and this exact image shows little to no difference in color or compression artifacts. I will save a PNG for you to analyze.

so its you trademark, isee. about the JPEG compresion, I'm speaking of my own -and common- knowledge in Pixel Art about the catastrophic effects of the JEPG compresion system on pixelart. But maybe it doesn't matter in images of such size.

It may be your trademark sit, but those "blurry" specs may look good on the rest of your work(i've checked the rest of your gallery), but when applied to sprites such as those -and pixelart in general-, honestly they look random, outplaced and horrible.

You do realize the chances of Nintendo responding to your permission request are likely 536,870,912:1, right? If you're using E-mail, you'll likely get an automated message!
Of course, I do agree with the above users that this should be a print. Hope you CAN get the copyright issues worked out...!
