“KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!!” I shouted at Jack, still holding onto the back of his vest with my left hand, while I aimed the SMG in my right at the on-coming soldiers. I flicked the gun to single shot and fired a few shots at the roof and floor of the tunnel, trying not to hit anyone head on. The shots had the desired effect of making them scramble back and dive for cover. They may want me dead, but not desperately enough to take a bullet.

But they still took potshots at me, with one 5.56 round pinging off the plating under my armpit and one 30-06 round busting a steam-pipe open, spouting hot air and vapor into the tunnel.
