This was a very fun and unique piece to do. After almost a year on dA and 4 months on FA I've only seen two other pieces like this, that is actually showing the baby in utero. One was a con badge on FA, the other was The creature within' piece by leokitsune that I colored. Ever since sex-ed in 7th grade its always amazed me that if 2 cells meet up under the right conditions and are given a bit of time, they can create an entirly new life. It just blows my mind how it's possible.
Anyways, the picture itself. There was no color scheme so ~Kairyu-shin told me that I could have at it. I wanted to do something that wasn't generic, but wasn't a freak of natire, so I looked up adoptables on dA and found a color scheme I liked
. I hope he doesn't mind, but I added a few detials that I thought enhanced the picture, such as the transparent sections on the top and bottom, the umbilical cord and the 'socks' of fur on his feet. Note to self: Never do an image search for 'umbilical cord. Yeah...... not my best idea. Forgive my inaccuracy on it, I had to construct it from memory alone.Original sketch and character are (C) of ~Kairyu-shin

It's always pleasant to come across in-utero diagrams of babies. This is what the big event of pregnancy is all about, after all!
Technical critique: Classic fetal position, I can tell you looked at plenty of references. You are a brave person for trying to fit cub-ears into a tight uterus, and they look perfectly natural in the piece with is very impressive considering... it's a tight-fitting space by this point. The umbilical cord.... While not anatomically correct (one large oxygen-feeding umbilical vein, two small waste-draining umbilical arteries) it's a good job for lacking references.

That's an unique idea, and a good work too.
So, you say that you wanted to do something that wasn't generic, but wasn't a freak of nature either. And do you know what you did? 
There is more to this: if we shut our eyes to a few differences, namely the socks and different face markings, this could even be my fursona before birth! Especially if we consider that the hyena cubs tend to have much darker fur than the adults.
Now that's a refreshing perspective, I never thought about my "critter" in that way.

No prob, like I said, it's very mild, she just looks like she's in mild discomfort. But hey, every pregnancy has to end at some point in time right?
