Description
I have been observing here some interesting alien drawings (like that from planet Snaiad), so I decided to add some of my collection (I have been drawing aliens since 5 years, so it is quite big now). This one is Doubletentacled woolshell from planet Coatlicue (second moon of third planet of star HD75289 in Vela constellation). I designed about hundred species from this planet so I hope, I will add some new soon. Planet Coatlicue is surprisingly rich of life, most ecosystems are similar to Earth coral reefs or tropical forests. Everything what lives here is extremely toxic for all Earth forms of life (and vice versa), because of different biochemistry. This planet would never be colonized by humans.Gravity is similar to gravity on Earth, but atmosphere is thicker, so there is more winged species. Doubletentacled woolshell is the species which lives in the hottest place on Coatlicue. Great green desert. It's not absolutely dry like some deserts on Earth, but it is more similar to plains. However, comparing to violet forests of giant vinetrees it really looks like desert. It is all covered by few meters fat carpet of serpent like gray termophytes (plants which gets energy from heat instead of light), spotted by green crystalplants resembling spherical cabbage, protecting their jelly bodies by transparent, glass like shells. Woolshells are big, elephant sized animals, mostly herbivorous, but sometimes eating carcass or even attacking weakened animals. They live in small packs consisting of ca. 20 specimens. There is much more big animals on Coatlicue than on Earth because the planet is more productive. Woolshells long and thick furs protect them from heat and predators (not from cold). For example, pickaxehand's claws sometimes slip on the fur instead off spike deep into flesh.
Skeleton of this creature is something between skeleton of vertebrates and arthropods. It has no backbone, but broad plates under skin on back and belly. Their hind legs have bones very similar to bones in vertebrate legs, but they are attached to first (biggest) cephalothorax back plate. Tentacles have one tooth resembling mandible on the base and its skeleton is made from bone rings. Woolshels belong to animals group, having no claws or fingers on the tentaclesβ top. Their whole skeleton is made from hard, carbohydrate similar to wood. They breath utilizing side tracheas, combining lungs and gills features, but working on land. Their blood is intensively blue. Their strangest internal organs are multi-way bowels (split for several dozen thin tubes). Another strange thing is mysterious structure in abdomen, used probably for electro-location and orientation in space.
Specimen on the picture is female (males are thinner, with longer abdomens).

Fur is isolator, just like in mammals. Mammal body produces heat, so fur keeps it IN its body and prevents dissipating it. Cephalothoraxids have refrigeration system in their book lungs. It pumps heat outside body, just like in refrigerator, cooling creature body below water boiling temperature. And refrigerators in our houses also have insulating layer to keep cold inside.

But the thing is electrolocation doesnt work very well on land, thats why the only large creatures which use it live in water where electric fields permeate much more easily.
How do cephalothoraxids get around that ?

It looks like something one would make on Spore. I like it and its fuzzy tentacles.

Well, I made it in Spore Β www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=sβ¦
I used it as one of animal species to estabilish planet ecosystem, when terraforming planets as Velorans. Spore Velorans are here www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=s⦠and drawing of them is here: fav.me/d54o4cv

Alien artworks should be hard to compare with anything known.
This creature is based on crayfish, elephant, stick insect, dinosaur, human hand, ghost knifefish and gelada. Strange combination, but point was to make strange creature.

(sorry if my english is..... weird) Β Man.., I had to google half of the animals you told me. Do you go at the zoo and draw every animal you see XD? ?(I'm joking) I like this approach on aliens.Β

"This planet would never be colonized by humans."
if we had to we would we would kill everything and terraform the entire place it might take a few generations but we would do it.
especially if we had no home to go back to.
and if our normal biology might not be able to sustain ourselves we might even go the route of genetic engineering.
in other words never say never , because humans will take that as a challenge!

You are too optimistic.
I don't believe in human civilization, maybe because i must look how polish government pulls our country in bigger and bigger crisis, day by day since 20 years...
And coatlicuan life is MUCH more competitive than ours. Creatures live in higher temprature and greater accessibility to required chemical elements. Thus, ther grow and breed much faster than earth life.
And also there is civilization here. Velorans. fav.me/d54o4cv Agressive ant like creatures with superiority complex. One of first human research attempt ended with loosing exploratory space ship to native middle ages warriors, and providing them with 30 century technology. Another good reason to keep away from this planet.

Hehe, thanks
I used only photoshop. First time in my life. It was pen and crayons drawing in chequered notebook. I was drawing strange creatures for five yers in school. (Just killing the time). I have no scanner so I made its photo and spend few days improving it in photoshop. First of all I hoped to remove grid and I suspected much worse effect. Mostly because I still dont know how photoshop works. But it looks now much better
Now I am slowly working on another old drawing. Gigantic marine filter feeder from Coatlicue, the leviathan.
