- The Character I've chosen is Katara
I've been working this on and off for about month and a half. and i'm finally finished with it.
The absolute hardest part was the water. But thanks to Jate, she found a perfect water splash tut that worked wonders for this picture.
Katara is just so freaking awesome in season 3 and i love love LOVE her latest wardrobe change. She looks like she's ready to kick ass and take names with this outfit. Some of the colors may be off bit but that's ok. And i made minor changes to the little bit armor that she wears.
I wanted to draw toph for the contest i really did, cuz thats my girl! But i had an Enee Menee Minee Mo situation and Katara ended up winning...so. I just wish i could do both of them though.

I'll have to agree with lots of the post below: the rendering and the water is done very nicely!
My only crit would be that it would be nice to have a bit more movement from Katara. The title of dancing does conjure an image of motion.
You probably don't want to break your composition, so perhaps something like a small curve in her back would give that impression. She's just a bit stiff right now, I'm afraid.
Overall, it is a nice pic of Katara- nice concept behind it, good intense, concentrated expression. I'll repeat it again, lovely rendering.

I will admit i have a hard time making my characters less stiff. And Im not sure how to improve upon it.
What do you recommend on how to make my characters "loose"?

Hmmm.
See if there's the book "Animator Survival Guide" at your local library, or see if you can find it used somewhere online. It gives some great tips.
Doing some life drawing also helps a lot. If you can't attend life drawing classes or sketch session, just look for reference of people dancing, running, doing martial arts or just doing stuff and draw very quick sketches: not more than 30 seconds, just try and get the basic pose.
You can also bring a sketchbook with you and doodle quickly the people around you. Don't go for likeness, just really quick, almost stick figure if you have to. Keep it messy, it's just to loosen up your wrist.

I am a BIG fan of this show as well, but haven't figured exactly when and where I can see 3rd season episodes (such a perfect fan right?) Anyways, this is a definite fav.
