Absolutely adorable, I concur. The clear night sky along with the fire flies surrounding him just make him look so forlorn. Basically, to me, it looks like he's gazing at the stars and moon on a beautiful night, wishing somepony would come and accept him as he is. Life with the queen is not how all changelings feel where they need to be, ya know?
Not sure if it's exactly what's going on here, but from the way I interpret it, it just makes his emotions seem that much more powerful.
