Preening isn't sexual, rather it is sensual. Ask anyone that owns any kind of bird, they preen themselves to improve appearance and flight, just like a woman would go and brush her hair. I would assume that when you brush your hair it becomes enjoyable, so would preening by my guessing. If you pull hair too much, it hurts... same with biting a wing I suppose.

in a way it makes sense - I would presume they have to be able to "feel" the wind and different currents etc as they fly... and if you factor in the fannon idea that Pegasus have magic flowing through their wings (the reason why disproportionate wings can carry them at all, such as with Snowflake/Bulk Biceps) and that said magic enables even more feeling (which would explain why they can be used so prehensile like) it sorta adds up
