Actually I did this mostly in photoshop, though I used paint tool sai for the lines because it's so much easier to line in SAI. >.< I still haven't tried Manga Studio or whatever it's called. o.o

The chocobo doesn't look frightened in panel 4. You have the action lines but there's no sense of action. You need to push the body language more and perhaps a more dramatic angle and lighting. Trying to imagine what a frightened chocobo looks like, [link] you could look for photos of chickens and horses. If you google "frightened horse" there are some good ideas. The reins offer a really great chance to show movement.
All of this takes more time but you shouldn't rush it. You'll get faster with practise. The non-action parts are looking good though. First page as well looks better now with the new tent background.

I always wanted to do some for XI but it was so hard to get started, plus I wasn't comfortable with my ability at that time. Not to say that I'm great now or anything, but I feel like I'm more able to explain with drawings than I was even just a year ago. Plus I really need to practice paneling and story telling and I think having an ongoing comic would be the best way for me to do that.

Well, if you really wanted to adjust it to look more startled, you could probably adjust her irises so they don't actually touch the tops of her eyes, that would cause the eyes to look slightly wider, I think...

Nice work! How long did it take you to make these 2 pages? I'vee wanted to make an story in manga style too, with screentones and all, I find it challenging. I've only made it traditionally, i bet digitally is faster, but it kinda intimidates me still XD

I didn't really time myself but it took me most of the day to do this 2nd page. I tend to get distracted a lot and take lots of breaks to prevent eye strain. (I frequently forget to blink when I work on art XD )
Using screen tones the traditional way just astounds me. @.@ I don't know how people do it. Must take forever! And if you make a mistake you have to start over. T-T How scary!

I've seen people do it with greytone markers as well so it doesn't have to be screen tones. Just depends on what is available to you and what you're able to work with.
