With Gamera:Rebirth inching it's way closer with the cryptic marketing, wanted to share my take on Gyaos. These vampiric-riddled batbirds have always been a favorite of mine, the design is classic and it's seen very little change over the course of time. Naturally I don't change much in my redesigns, if anything I wanted to give them a more naturalistic look.

Gyaos in their purest genome are similar to that of shoebills or vultures in facial structure. Gathering in flocks to feast on dead kaiju, their frenzies can strip entire bodies down to nothing in minutes. However they themselves are also easy prey for larger monsters, most notably Rodan who has been known to hunt them regularly. This iteration of Gyaos are mainly scavengers, but do prey upon humans as well.

Their voracious tendencies and ferocity merely increase as their evolutions progress. Super and Hyper are larger, more aggressive, and can hunt just about anything; humans, kaiju or even other Gyaos. They are more formidable as well, so in great numbers they are less trifled with and kaiju like Rodan are less likely to attempt an attack. This is largely credited to their primary weapon, a thin yellow beam of sonic energy that can slice biomatter at the molecular level. The only kaiju known to ignore these signs and initiate combat is Gamera, whom they share a history with.

Space Gyaos is the only specimen that's largely a mystery as to how it originated. Gyaos are natives to Earth via the ancient Atlanteans, so it's assumed a 'cosmic entity' of similar technological advantage created them. Their Sonic Scalpal, strangely, is a beam of crystals that spreads upon impact with whatever it touches.

Tldr; Gyaos are widespread across the globe currently, but other kaiju keep their populations in check while Gamera exclusively takes on the stronger variants.
