The picture is once again very detailed and beautifully colored. Yet I think it has some little problems.
First of all the partition of the picture is somehow strange. Why are the kids in the lower left corner? You should have put them more to the middle. And a bit higher. Like that they're kind of pushed away in that little corner by the rest of the picture, like that bright window. And noone looks anymore at them, but at the wall and the window. I'm sure that this is not what you wanted to achieve ^^'
It's also lacking a real foreground. I mean you have the background with the window, the midground with the trio and the shelf, but nothing that's in the foreground. Maybe the trio itself could have been more in the foreground, making them also a bit bigger.
Plus everywhere in the picture the colors are very bright. That combined with the lacking foreground makes the whole picture looking pretty flat. You should color the background darker or in paler colors (though here darker would be better, paler is more suitable for landscapes) Also some items should throw clear shadows. You know I see no specific source of light.

And last but not least everything seems to be a bit crooked. You know like it's going from the upper left to lower right corner... but that's just a minor thing ^^

I hope I was not too harsh here, just wanted to give a usefull comment ^^ I hope I could help you a bit

hello!..thank you for the wonderful critic, don't worry i am not mad hehehe..why shoudl I be?.

I actually to be honest with you didn't want the drawing to fosuc on the kids...I just wanted them to be part of it...my main goal was to get the wall and the window to stand out, which you said have worked very well...because taht's what i wanted!...as for a lack of foreground..and the flatness of the drawing is usually what i go for for my style. But I do agree that the picture is all together bright, i think I should have used a bit more shading, which i will make sure I will do in my next water color .

Thank you !..keep this up!!..I wish there were more critics like you!..who actually give me a reason other than "I don'tlike it"..or "It's too busy for me!"...

^^ HUm well from time to time I'm trying to be helpful. Though usually all I could say would be 'The nose is not okay' or' the left seems to be wrong' XD I'm not really a pro.

Well I'm glad you're not angry with me There are many artists who can't really stand the slightest bit of criticism

As long as you point the obvious mistakes that's fine by me ....just be concise...which you are .

I rarely get mad...I used to get really defensive before..but i learned to give a chance and look over the drawing and see if the critisicm did fall right in its place . Besides i believe criticism is a very good source of motivation and getting to the bettr.

aera In reply to PrimeHunter [2005-07-27 21:18:10 +0000 UTC]

^^ HUm yep, I think you're right.

When it comes to drawing, one does not only need to learn things like anatomy and perspective. To accept criticism is also an important thing. And there are not many people who're able to do that from the beginning. ^^' I'm no different. I needed to learn, that noone wants to harm me when telling me things that are wrong in my pictures.
Back then, I thought: 'hey why're you criticising me?!? That's the best thing I can do, I'll never be as good as those pros anyway. So why should I consider these things other people are telling me?!'

Three or four years back I would have never dreamed to be as good as I am now (and I'm still far away from being *really* good.) Back then I didn't even begin to understand, that every picture is only drawn by humans. Now I know a lot more about the technique behind most pictures (as I'm trying out a wide range of techniques myself, watercolor, markers, PC, pencils), so I can also say how a picture is done.

I even begin to think, that I could do most pictures, too. If I just try hard and practise enough. By now those pictures from pros, like Enayla, Pu-sama, Engelszorn, Heise do not look that impossible to do anymore (okay Enayla's art would still be pretty hard to achieve...)
And as I want to be as good as those artists one day, I'm really glad about every little bit of help I'm getting...
So I guess I've grown a bit as an artist. Not only considering technqiue, but also in the sense of beeing able to progress and see own pictures from a less personal point of view.

XD The philosopher in me is breaking through again...

I know!!..I'm totally with you!...5 months ago I told my self that I should try new stuff and that I should also teach myse;f perspective and anatomy...and I put my mind to it..and now I fear nothing!!!..I used to fear watercolors!!..but look where I am now!!!...the future is bright for us my friend ..we should just keep diggin' for new styles!.
