After stumbling on the young doe, her likely father was very apparent to Lear's perceptive eye - Locke's get. The girl also has a similar vision predictament to himself, so he can't help but feel inclined and attached to help her learn to manage it.

Appearance: Built like a brickwall, his hide and scales are littered with scars. One eye, entirely blind, is a milky blue-white, startlingly reflective. His crocodile's tail, not un-scarred, makes a well used trip, or club.
Accessories: Stone Auster Racks of varying color and complexity; he has several "necklaces" from these.

With a sharp mind to match his brawn, Lear makes a terrifying and effective opponent, and he means to be the best he can be. Inherited from his sire the same as his brawn, a temper lingers, lending to nasty outbursts if let to boil.

He's not bad with words, either, even talented, though the "Bull Crocodile"'s scar littered appearance causes many to outright ignore this.

History:

Y1981
Lear is born, looking an awkward and oddly proportioned thing. His dam felt quite sorry for him, for a time.

Y1984
Lear begins to look like something potentially formidable, instead of several different proportioned creatures haphazardly glued together. His sire is quite pleased, and begins to train him, and nudge him into training and sparring with older shadows.

Y1985-6
Lear's sire, Donalbain, begins to tell his opponents and training partners not to hold back. After all, SA enemies will do no such thing; and neither does he. Lear's first scars begin to cling, and he learns his large tail proves a nasty club, with the right use.

Y1988
Sparring with one of Donalbain's friends, an Austerian shadow, Lear, already covered in scratches and bleeding, will not yield; until the Auster's antlers nearly takes out his eye, damaging and blinding it. Once a witch manages to get his eye to stop leaking blood, it begins to go milky.

Told to rest, Lear doesn't listen.

Y1989 - Present
Lear gains a reputation, as a fully-fledged shadow; vicious, massive, and a brain to put it all to use. A suitable soldier to harass the austerians and nombeko alike.

Year 1996
The scarred 'bull crocodile', with his teeth and milky eye, joins the seige.

When the Shadow occupation of Auster was violently ended in a single night, along with the Raven Queen, Lear was driven off into the wilds. The new few years were spent crossing between Nombeko Territory, The Free-Roaming Lands, and Austerian territory. Some effort and work was set to escorting Shadows hiding deep in Auster territory out.

In the year 1997 he returns to Auster with an inkling- finding a dying witch he'd known in the shadows, Seren. Quietly, the doe asks him to care for her fawn as if she is his own, and Lear swears he will. When the fawn, Signe, returns to the den with the plant her mother requested, her mother has passed. Lear buries the doe and takes Signe with him when he goes.

In the next year, he finds an abandoned scybilline egg in the Nombeko Plains and collects it to hatch. Not long later, Marceline, his second daughter, hatches under his watchful eye.

When the Shadows reform as the Vanguard, under the Dreadnought Noaxmi, Lear is loyal and eager. He continues making forrays into Auster territory, including taking his daughters to the grand Austerian Tournament of Champions held there- the first to be open and welcoming to outsiders. He's disguised, for safety. In the dim light of the masquerade ball, he meets a quiet doe by the name of Bathory.

When they next meet, he is unpainted and undisguised, leading a shadow to the austerian border. In a panic of being discovered, Lear tells the other escaping shadow to "GO", and charges, launching the poor Doe across the 'street' of trees. The next time they meet, an apology is delivered, and the doe seems unoffended- the pair continuing to bump into one another.

In the late summer of 2000, Lear quietly asks Bathory to come away with him, to the Shadows - unbeknownst to him, elsewhere, a doe he dalliance'd with the winter before bears twins that look rather like their father...

When they reach the shadow bastion, Lear finds twin foals under the care of a nursemaid and his other mother- delivered unnamed to Aileen, who swiftly bundled them to the shadows. Lear names the filly Helena, and the colt Lysander.

The next few years are a blur of activity- hunting for formaris stones, being launched into the trails they lead to, fighting tooth and nail to get scales to dedicate to their patron deity. In this time, Lear's mate, Bathory finds that they do not feel precisely like a doe, or a stag for that matter. Lear readily accepts this.

After turning in three scales, in Saraph territory, Lear is swiftly and VIOLENTLY mutated, coming out looking far different then before- escorted back by a rather concerned Noaxmi.

Now that the shadows hold a new home, Lear has been promoted to a commander...
