Erik is a good, but strict, teacher. I can't see him taking any excuses. I think him and Yoda would get along well...
I think that Christine's feelings are pretty understandable. Taking lessons in the comforts of her own home from a disembodied voice is disturbing, but still somewhat like singing along to her favorite album. Bu...t being there in Erik's presence with his overall intensity would have to be intimidating.
Also, she's probably still a little freaked out by the fact that he is actually a person, and not a figment of her imagination.

NOTE: pointed out to me in the last page that for Christine to be able to sing "The Jewel Song" that she would have to have a pretty high range. I would like to apologize for this discrepancy, and attempt to explain it. I would like to think that Erik played the score in a different key that would be easier for Chris' range. Admittedly even though I do sing (I'm a second alto, lol) I really do not know much about musical score. However I am open to the suggestions of those far more knowledgeable. I do not want to let my lack of knowledge compromise the story in any way, and am glad when others are able to point out things like this.
