Now all the girl characters just enter contests. I wish they would battle again instead of entering pokemon contests DX> Its almost like they think battling is too manly :[

Well, to be fair, Iris is at least doing something other than Contests (ironically Misty's goal, only replace "Water" with "Dragon."), and technically Serena hasn't even gotten an actual goal yet (I know people cite the Pokevideo thing from the Summer Camp arc, but we don't really have any real indication she'll go for that. It may be a red herring for all we know, just as May doing Gym Battles was a red herring).
That being said, I see andΒ agree withΒ your point, and unfortunately, the writers starting May got cynical and decided they could get a boost in ratings by just making the girls "eyecandy" and purely fanservice objects for kids to lap up (a really cheap way to do things, and definitely cynical by every definition of the word). Even worse since they're 10, which basically implies that they are peddling out child pornography as a result. It's not good that Bulma, the girls of Love Hina, the Dead or Alive girls, Maron, the Battle Vixen girls, and all of them were subjected to fanservice, but at least they were at the age of consent (16 and up, though Bulma implies that 16 isn't in her universe), while the girls from PokΓ©mon weren't even teens yet, let alone at the age of consent. And BTW, this isn't even opinion, this was actually made clear by the ex-director back in 2008. And honestly, it explains why at the very least May and Dawn had the personality and physical characteristics of Hina stereotypes (you know, the girls from the episode Princess vs. Princess, Love Hina, Battle Vixens, and the like). It was pretty insulting to replace Misty with a Hina stereotype, really, as she actually proved herself to not be of that stereotype in PvP.

It reminds me of how the old spongebob episodes are my favorites.
The girl main characters doing competitions and not battling makes me think pokemon is becoming more of a guy think :[ (like battling and all)
