In this case there IS a story, it's already done and I'm just waiting for it to be edited and posted! They are hired to guard a cave by pretending to be some mysterious cryptids lurking around, but they are slacking quite a bit on the job... it might come back to bite them  

I have a story in mind about what's happening for most of them, though not everything. But, they usually fall into these categories:

- Cosplay, dressing up as fictional characters. This doesn't need much of an explanation, since they just do it for fun.

- Furry fandom, they want to embody an anthro character.

- Performance, like going on stage or some kind of theme park. In that case, they are hired to do it.

- LARPing, wearing the costumes for some fantasy roleplay scenario.

- Espionage, where the person is trying to deceive someone.

- Security/hoaxes, someone wears a costume to scare people away or capture them. Those are usually monsters of some kind.

So as you can see, it depends on the scenario. They aren't all wearing them for the same reason.

I see. It's just that you seem to have the protector theme showing up a fair bit in a few of your works, and i was wondering if there was something more behind it.

Haha not really, it's just the most sensible reason why someone with a robotic monster suit might be roaming around an isolated area and scaring people, while not being a criminal, so it's a theme that often recurs. There's no "shared mythos" or anything. Being a fan of Scooby Doo is what made me start liking costumes in the first place so that could also be it.

It's done, I'm just waiting on the author to post it. It will be in my favorites when it is.
