Intergalactic Relationships
Chromites, although solitary and secluded from MOST races, do like to branch out to races that have similar appearances to them, as it makes them feel more comfortable and at ease. Tooth-eye species are therefore common to come by on their homeplanet; Tourists from all kinds of homeworlds come around, such as Xynthiis and Celestial Critters, and sometimes even Solaxxies (and by that measure, Humans too)! They are very friendly toward MOST outsiders and despite their ongoing feud/war with the Palettites, they keep it to themselves and don't let it mix with their relationships with other species. It is in this regard that Chromites are very stubborn, as they have been offered help in the war several times by other species but have refused many times (but not all!) and it is known that Chromites have a lot of pride. One of the few races that has ever been able to grace the species with it's help is the Arachnoid species.
With that said, every year at the Shade Ball there are ambassadors from all of their allied species who come to represent their homeplanet and race as a whole; some of them being members of the public like Nidalee (the Celestial Critters Mascot) here, or nobles/veterans/politicians/people in a high seat of power. The Shade Ball is not only a celebration of their survival in the struggle for peace against the Palettite people, but it is also a political event where members of different species can get together to discuss certain things such as trade routes, embassies, immigration and much more.
Chromites encourage inter-species friendships and relationships, and xenophilia is actually a common turn-on or fetish for some! Most children born from a Chromite and another species (which is rare) are usually hybrids, much like the Arachmites!
Cuisine
Chromite cuisine is very... odd, and most races are not quite sure how to handle it, but during large tourist events, Chromites make sure to have food suitable for other races, since the way this species eats is fairly unique and they do not expect others to have the same qualities as themselves.
Like most races have a dining room, Chromites have something similar, known as a 'Food Floor'. It is a large, decorated room with a self-cleansing floor (due to nano-technologies) which is usually decked out with many different plants, insects, fish, fruits and vegetables which have all been cooked and made in interesting ways. Genuine red meat or avian meat is a delicacy usually for richer people, as it is more rare to come by; this shall be explained in the next topic. The chef of the family will deck out all of the food around the floor, and all the Chromites will file in and relax, letting their slime/goop limbs 'melt' to the floor and dissolving and absorbing all the food with it. This usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour, and during that time Chromites will happily sit (or lay, as such is an option) and talk about their daily lives and such, just as a normal family would. It is usually customary to let the oldest of the household start.
Food rooms can be a messy affair, so afterward it is very common for Chromites to take a wash, cleaning their hair and bodies. Most restaurants with food floors have large washrooms for their guests to enjoy afterward, and as such it is more like a dining and spa experience every time; most races of course are not used to this, and stick to the tourist restaurants which can be found almost anywhere, since tourism is something they pride themselves in as a race.
Wildlife
Most wildlife within the Great Crevasse is insectoid, sealife, or slime. It is very rare that you will see mammals and avian creatures around, as they stick to both the ceilings of the crevasse and the surface, which most believe to be almost completely barren. This is true, although there are small openings into the crevasse from the surface, and around SOME of these areas, some surface flora and fauna may survive the harsh environments.
The slimes are the most abundant, but also the least edible, and such is very frowned upon anyway; slimes are considered the domesticated ancestors of Chromite people. They are protected and domesticated and raised by many of the Chromite people. They're called Goopits, and they will be a semi-open pet species available soon!
Insectoid life and sealife are both equally as abundant, as there are surprisingly many active springs, rivers and lakes within the crevasse, and many of them are very deep! Almost ALL sealife is edible to them, but some insects can make them sick if not cooked or handled with care, as the insect life on the planet is large, deadly, and has lethal poisons and venoms which only Chromites are able to really handle. If another species were to come in contact with said poisons or venoms, it could be a death sentence or at the very least, a long time recovering in hospital.
Most sealife and plants are bioluminescent, having evolved this way due to being underground in the dark. A few insects also glow and light up, though this is less bioluminescence and more of a firefly effect.

The 'food floor' idea is so pleasing!
Forget the small crowdy dining rooms and welcome large halls; where all the food is displayed beautifully on the floor!

id imagine that since chromites can handle most poisons without ill affect that that is their prefered method of hunting. normaly yo wouldn't use poison to take down something you intended to eat, but chromites already eat things with most of those poisons

To hunt things such as sealife, mammals and birds, yes! Poison is a preferred weapon of choice so to speak and is used in traps and weapons of all kinds to hunt prey.
