How do you manage to make such great patterns? It seems like a painful process.

It is. I used a website to make the images pixalized (unfortunately it's been so long I forgot the website :/) and then I would fix the colors pixel by pixel n photoshop to make sure there were the right number of colors. Then I would transfer the pattern into ACNL manually. Then I uploaded the QR codes here. It's been such a long time since I made any. I'm sure there are better websites now that can do the job better.
