Okay so he used to be part of like an airforce team and he was testing out a new ship, but something went wrong and he crashed. The crash left him pretty much dead so while in the hospital he was offered a chance at living again by an organization that basically turned people into cyborgs. He took the offer, but what he didn't know was that this organization was illegal because once they had turned someone into a cyborg they would wipe their memory and send them to a different organization that just had the cyborgs fight each other, mostly to see how well they could function and partially for enjoyment. So that is exactly what happened to Overdrive.
Don't worry though, he escapes and gets to be happy.
