Description Through Christ we become fully human.

This is another painting created by the art team I used to be a part of.
I created the concept with influences of Art Nouveau, Klimt, colourful African-style clothing, and my own joy of patterns.
I designed the artwork in Photoshop, then our team painted the artwork on stage during church services, on a 1.4 metre wide x 1.2 metre high board, over a period of several weeks.

I'm no longer part of the team, since I've moved towns, I kinda miss it!

Featured here, as you already noticed! LightsWe relish the colors of life, brilliantly alight, even through the tears that give them extra sharpness. We cannot forget what is beautiful, what has given us joy--even when it fades like the sunset, we hold it clearly in our memory. Nothing tarnishes except when we choose bitterness or selfishly grasp what isn't ours. What is precious must be free, for love, like beauty, is a gift. Thank you so much to the artists who created such marvellous beauty and set it free before our eyes. As always, please enjoy the music video (and poem by wordturner at the end), and be kind to one another! Love in Christ, -Debra

Very interesting.Β  I've heart of people painting during events (in the background) while someone is speaking. Never heard of someone doing it during church services. Was it distracting to the people at all? I'm guessing the intention was to compliment whatever the sermon was about.Β  Very very cool idea.

Thanks Ember. Well the feedback from the congregation was always mostly positive, but there were a few that said it was distracting. Others said it was distracting in a GOOD way, because if they were bored with part of the sermon they looked at the artwork progressing and were able to reflect on the theme of the sermon. I was always mindful that we didn't become a spectacle though.
Apparently some churches have 'prophetic painting' during services, but that's not my thing.

That is very interesting feedback.Β  My church is so conservative (yet media driven) that we have monitors on the stage as a background for the Pastor, and the monitors have animated abstract images, but we have to make sure the animations are super slow and subtle so that it isn't too distracting. haha!Β  A couple years ago I had the opportunity to do a live painting during an outreach at a friend's church, but I wasn't able to because of my busy schedule.Β  It sounded intriguing yet intimidating all at the same time.

Yeah it is very intimidating, but at its best it is also a wonderful experience, especially painting to live worship music, literally feeling the music travel through the stage into your body while you paint.

Such gorgeous coloring. I like that Jesus is depicted with an appropriate complexion for a Middle Eastern man.Β
