please do! it's neat how characters from :animated are cropping up in mtmte, huh? i seriously thought this is what might happen, what with him being a collector of unique shit and that

<3 Yay!
Lockdown cropped up in the Movieverse first [in the comics and shorts as well as his own toy] and that's where his design is from. Of course, it's based off his original form in Animated |D Lockdown is basically my favorite character to write, too, my roommate and I worked on a Prime version of him, and just aaah. He's so glorious, he's probably in my 'top favorite TF character' slot but I just haven't admitted it yet. xD And yes, he would, collecting all the parrrts aaah
He was actually in the Drift mini-series too, I don't know if you've read that or not, but because of that I kind of ship them >3>

i only got the first issue of the drift thing when it came out and didn't bother to read on. after reading mtmte i bought the collected drift book thing 'cause i thought i'd give it another shot. i can't even get through it. i didn't even know lockdown was in it. i like that turmoil guy though, he's fantastic. i've looked at some of the bits with him in
urgh, drift. why would you ship anyone with that guy. stop it.

I've never read the Drift miniseries either, I tired but god. It's so baaad. But Lockdown makes his first appearance there so I kinda wanna try to read it again but hhhnnngh. Drift is like the woooorst. But at least he's stand-able now in MTMTE. Roberts got hold of him and turned him into something decent.
I ship him with Lockdown because then Lockdown can beat the ever living shit out him and leave him in a whimpering bleeding pulp ◉‿◉

yeah, i really tried as well. i was happy to give it another go, thinking that having a new take on the character might make the whole thing more interesting in retrospect but, no. still wank
speaking of which, i'm pleased to announce that i have had a complete revelation about pacific rim and now I LOVE IT

LET'S DO THIS
can i tell you all about this thing i've been thinking about? a few days ago something dawned on me. you know the bit where newt gets caught by the kaiju, and it seems like it's about to kill him, but after it investigates him with its tongue (?) it leaves him be? well, i realised that that is just exactly like the famous scene in alien 3 where ripley is examined and then left by the xenomorph in the medical bay. in that scene, the alien leaves ripley 'cause it knows she's carrying an alien queen embryo, right? and this bit is exactly the same. so why does the kaiju leave newt be?
BEACUASE
i reckon, it's cause the kaiju hivemind know newt's mind now and they know that he loves them and he's fascinated by them and ultimately he will help them. he'll open the door back up again for them if he can. he's an ally, so they want him alive. that was my theory.
so, get this. yesterday slash film reported an interview with charlie day where he said that guillermo del toro's initial plan was to have newt be the antagonist in the second film. THEORY CONFIRMED (i reckon)
so, now i want to see that fucking film! i didn't really care about a sequel before but if it followed that idea, man, i think that would be cool as fuck

MAN I NOTICED THAT TOO. I was like really fascinated with how Otachi just kind of investigated him, like the only reason she was out there was to make contact with him and possibly find some way to provide more certain contact with him. Also, who knows, maybe they engineered Otachi pregnant, JUST so that Newt could Drift with it. Hell, I think they probably did, thinking they could use hm for information for the Jaegers, BUT, they weren't expecting him to have the resolve nor to have Hermann backing him up. Newton was obviously working for mankind, but, I can certainly see the hive mind infecting him, possibly even taking him over and using him to open anew Breach.
By the fact that del Toro already agreed for a sequel, I am very sure that he already had a sequel story in his mind. Because he wouldn't be right on top of that otherwise. I really look forward to seeing it, who knows what's gonna happen! 8D
I'm also looking forward to the dynamic that changed between Hermann and Newton. They fucking hated each other and were constantly babbling over each other, and sniping, but after they Drifted they basically became one mind and it was awesome. I also ship the ever living fuck out of them but let's not mention that

is there anything you don't ship? i like them too but guess what? it turns out hannibal chau/newt is actually where it's at
yeah i can see the kaiju meat-puppeting newt, too. you're right, they probably did send that baby-brain to him on purpose, gift-wrapped and tied in a bow.
the sequel probably will not be cool though, it will have newt and herman building a shonky cobbled-together-from-scrap sentient jaeger with a brain together and piloting it together and it'll be ridiculous

There's plenty I don't ship, but when it comes to Newt not really. I ship the fuck out of him and Hannibal too |D Ron Perlman/Skinny wiry guys is literally the best fucking thing ever. I need to write a bit more of that, too, because goddamn when I saw Chau in a preview I completely lost my shit, because the only person with a bigger Ron Perlman fetish than me is Guillermo del Toro. Fun fact: My version of Prime Lockdown is voiced by Perlman in my head and no one can change my mind about that AHAH. But yeah, no. Newton/Hermann, Newton/Hannibal, Newton/Precursors, all of it. I ship all of it. ANYTHING WITH NEWTON I HONESTLY DON'T CARE. Hermann is because feels, Hannibal is because we all know Chau is the best sugar daddy ever and it's just fucking hot. I can see them Drifting together with what's left of a secondary Kaiju brain and yeah that's just. Fantastic.
Okay the idea of them making a semi-sentient Jaeger just makes me think that they just make Brainstorm and Perceptor as their own mecha-suits or something equally ridiculous. I'm looking forward to what he's pulling out for this, if Newton is the antagonist I'm pretty sure it won't be of his own free will, and if it is it's because he was forced/talked into it.

i was so glad i avoided reading or watching anything about pacific rim before i saw it, 'cause when ron perlman appeared it was a total surprise to me (because i'm a complete moron) and i was actually giggling
newt is guillermo del toro's avatar in the film, though. he loves the monsters so much and he has to help design their doom 'cause it's his job, but really he doesn't want to hurt them. conflicted, dude. i don't think he would take all that much talking into it, heh heh. bit of gentle persuasion, just dredge up some painful childhood memories from him and herman, remind him about all the times they got their lunch money stolen

I tried to do that, but there was an unskippable ad on a youtube thing and that's when I found out about Perlman. Besides that I was completely in the dark, though I DID read the pre-movie comic, but yeah. I was giddy as all fuck when I saw him too, I'd actually forgotten about him and then was like AYEEEE <3
Oh yeah he totally is it's actually really great. Lol yeah, that's all it'll take. Not to mention Newton would be kind of lost after the Kaiju are gone and he's basically out of a job. Yeah, sure, him and Hermann could probably go around doing lectures and stuff but he won't be happy with it.

that is unforgiveable! making a trailer unskippable, aaargh, that's infuriating and incredibly thoughtless. trailers are so spoilery these days. that's even worse than the adverts with sound that don't have a mute button
i try to avoid spoilers as much as i can for things i'm interested in. those massive previews they put out for each issue of mtmte are the worst- in the last week before an issue comes out, any time i see a comic page while i'm browsing i practically slam my laptop shut in a flap

YEAH I was able to block most of it out, but I still spotted Mr. Perlman and squealed.
Oh man yeah those MTMTE things... Fun fact I actually haven't even read MTMTE, I've only read like 17 or something and then the first one but I already know everything that happens :[

I KNOW I HAVE THEM. I just haven't gotten around to reading them just yet, I keep getting distracted! Also at this point I don't want to be a sobbing mess! D:
I have all of them digitally, and I've read the last few, and the first one. x.x

you won't be a sobbing mess, it's funny a lot more of the time than it's sad. everybody makes a big thing of the sad parts but mostly it's amusing and interesting.
did you enjoy the first issue when you read it, did it make you feel like reading on?

Wooden-Flashlight In reply to prisonsuit-rabbitman [2013-08-09 03:57:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes, yes it did. I want to read it, I just haven't really had the time to sit down and enjoy it like it deserves. I want to give it my full attention and I haven't been able to.

Everything regarding that Titan show seems like nothing but nightmare fuel to you haha. Well that's what you get from a guy who is 26 years old and draws nothing but people getting eaten by malicious 16m tall beings who eat their fill and then throw up a giant gore ball (reference to ep 13 in the series). Anyway back to Trailbreaker being mech-handled...seems like something I would actually pay to watch actually heh......
