I don't do a lot of fan art. When asked about this, I claim that my fandoms don't usually arouse the sort of passion in me to inspire the attention span required to make serious art about them.Then I remembered Gren.
I wouldn't count Cowboy Bebop as my all-time favorite anime (its definitely in my top 8, but probably not number one). But if I had to pick an all-time favorite anime character, Gren is definitely it.
I've never been so moved by a bit-plot character who only appears in two episodes. Call it affection for a fellow saxophonist. ^^ But Space Lion/Goodnight Julia will make me cry every time.
I'd like critiques on this, if you please. It doesn't look done to me and I want opinions.

Wow, this is an awesome piece. I love all the shades in his hair (such a beautiful array of colors), and whole atmosphere is amazing. Gren surprised me by becoming one of my favorite characters. I usually love small-bit anime characters, but it has been a while since I really enjoyed one so much.

I wish they had an unedited version of the scene with him and Faye in the shower. I had an argument with a friend. She thought he was man on top and woman on bottom but by Faye's reaction of questioning the top as a woman then blushing and looking away when looking lower, it was obvious Gren was a man down there. I totally won that bet. xD Lol <3

the only critique I have for it (if you still want it even, I know you submitted this a few years ago) but the mouthpiece looks a little too sideways, like you can see too much of the reed. It almost looks like its too crooked in his mouth....but still, I agree Gren is my favorite anime character (maybe for the sax love too) but this give me so much joy everytime I look at this picture ^_^ Thanks for sharing.

Wow, I've never seen someone do a fanart of Gren. He's also one of my favorites, and I have always loved Space Lion as one of my favorite songs. Yoko Kanno is a genius lol. I have no negitive critique to offer, I feel that this is a very moving picture, just like the song he's playing ^_^

The lighting on the saxophone and his skin are fantastic, and I like how he's realistic and still recognizable in your style (and a bit Asian.) (And somebody already said something about his collar-bone, so I'll shut up.)

I'd say the only thing I can see right off is that the eyes look kind of tightly closed and sunken in, if you know what I mean. I would say either make the eyelids a bit longer or do something I learned from art class-draw the eye socket(like aviator glasses), draw the eyeball inside the socket, and then draw the skin over the top, forming the eyelid. That's something that's always helped me. Drawing from life always helps too. The hair , sax, and colors are nice. Good detail with the saxophone. The hair could have some more highlights and lowlights in it overall so it won't look like one mass, but other than that it's fine. I think that's all I have to say about it. Overall, good job! BTW, I think Gren's story was really the most grabbing side story out of Cowboy Bebop, aside from the blind girl and her brother who was trying to get that plant for her.

I love this! Man, Gren was one of my fav Cowboy Bebop characters...Sigh, I miss that show. The only thing I could truly critque is that his shoulders are a little small...? Or is that just me? Otherwise this great! Good Job!
