Some shrinking grids were designed such that, even when the grid was down, the miniature cities were still framed by rivers or other natural barriers that made it clear where town began. After the grid disaster, farm women enthusiastically planted right up to those barriers. Nothing was physically stopping them from going any further, but they seemed to respect the divides.***
