Description Teacher: Today we're going to learn how to safely handle shrunken people.  This is a skill you'll be tested on if you apply for work in a size alteration lab.  It's important to practice with people who don't already know what to expect when being held, so here's a bus full of people I went out and shrank just this morning.
Jyoti: Ha ha.  My dad takes a bus to work every day that looks just like this one.  Hi dad, if you're in there.
Kelly: Is it really his bus?  I want to hold your father!
Teacher: If he doesn't come home tonight, then you'll know.  But anyway, hold open your hand under the bus and we'll ask one or two people to step off onto your palm.
Kelly: Send your dad a text and see if he's at work.
Jyoti: Good idea.  Let me get my phone.
Teacher: There will be time for that later.  Concentrate on the lesson now, please.
Jyoti: Right.  Um...  Hello in there.  Can someone please jump into my hand?
.....
Jyoti: No one's coming out.  Am I scary or something?
Teacher: Everything's probably scary when you're freshly shrunk; don't take it personally.  But it's no problem.  One or two people always fall out if I tilt the bus and give it a gentle shake.  There we go.
Kelly: It's a little man and a woman!  Jyoti, is the guy your dad?
Jyoti: I don't know.  He wears the same kind of clothes.  Pass me the magnifying glass.
Kelly: Let me hold him.
Jyoti: No!
Teacher: Careful, Jyoti.  Centimeter-tall people are very fragile.  You could crush them if you close your hand like that.  Now open it up.
Jyoti: Yes, ma'am.
Kelly: Got him!  Let's take a closer look.
Teacher: Kelly, no!  You need to be very slow and gentle if you're going to pick someone up between your fingers like that.  You could hurt him.  Now put him back on Jyoti's hand.
Kelly: Nyaah, alright.
Teacher: Now we need to watch him a moment to make sure he isn't hurt.  You girls handled him pretty roughly.  Jyoti, hold your hand as steady as you can.  It's easy for tiny people to lose their balance.  While you're doing that, I'll set the bus in this bowl so anyone who gets off can't escape and hide anywhere else on the desk.  It's easy to lose track of shrunken people.
Kelly: So who's the woman?  Wish I had a figure like that.  It would be funny if your dad was having an affair and this is how we found out about it!
Jyoti: Not funny, Kelly!
Teacher: Even if our little guy here is Jyoti's father, the woman's most likely a random passenger he's never met before, not some illicit mistress.  Jyoti, has he moved since Kelly put him back in your hand?
Jyoti: No, ma'am.  He's just laying there.
Teacher: You two probably just knocked the wind out of him, but it's possible he's genuinely hurt.  Let me grab him with this cotton ball..... there.  Now I'll set him aside and check up on him when class is over.  Now let me grab the woman.  Notice how I'm doing so slowly and carefully.  Not like what you did, Kelly.  For now, just watch while I demonstrate how to properly examine a shrunken person.  In a minute we'll get a couple more people from the bus and you two can practice.
Kelly: Um, Miss?  What happens to these people after the lesson?  Do we put them back?
Teacher: Of course not.  The regular world is far too dangerous for shrunken people.  They're ours to practice with until the end of the year.  I'll make sure their needs are met.  Then, if the man does turn out to be Jyoti's father, I'm sure her mother would be delighted to have him back.  The rest of them-
Jyoti: Ew!  I don't want to think about my mom playing with my dad!
Kelly: Her boobs are huge.  Poor little guy's gonna suffocate.
Jyoti: Kelly, if you don't shut up I'll shrink YOUR dad and stuff him in your mom's bra.  I know how the shrinker works!
Teacher: Girls!  Pay attention to me and the woman I'm holding against my thumb here.  She's being very patient for you.
Kelly: Sorry, ma'am.
Jyoti: Sorry, tiny lady.
