2020 was a difficult year or everyone, and the size alteration companies were not spared. Unable to meet in the lab, employees had to take shrunken "samples" (people) home for care and limited experimentation. Making already-shrunken cities small enough to be transportable to employees' homes for guardianship and observation pushed the limits of what modern size alteration technology could do. This technician diligently checks on her city every day. They can see her towering face above them. The ones on the edge of town can see her chest at the edge of the table as she leans in to get a better look. But she never lets any object, not even her own fingertip, get close to the tiny dot of a city on her table. And until she does, the people of the city won't understand how small their metropolis has truly become.

How is everyone today? Things are a mess in the outside world. Believe it or not, I think you might be better off shrunken right now. Especially if it's really true what they say, that diseases can't pass between people of different scales. I think--

Is that a tiny airplane? You have air travel! Today at work the boss said something about possibly giving me another shrunken urban core in the future. Maybe I'll put it on my dresser and you two can have flights between eachother. I hope your city and theirs are shrunk to the same scale. Otherwise meetings at the airport will be pretty awkward.
