Prior to the release of Godzilla (2014), Yoshimitsu Banno, the director of Godzilla vs Hedorah, attempted to remake his movie in 2004 as a 3D film, but this wound up never happening (though Banno would go on to be a producer on the Legendary Monsterverse movies up until his death in 2017). I've heard rumors that the idea would have redesigned Hedorah to have a form resembling a human skeleton, bringing to my mind the final form of Hexus from Fern Gully...which is a design I'll have to try out sometime.
