Description When did telling people
What they want to hear
Become more important than
Telling them
The truth?
Little lies to spare
The feelings of those you
Care about
When do they stop being about
Their protection and
Start being about
Your own?
For lies will eventually
Be discovered
And when they are
No matter how
Well-intentioned
The hurt is only
Magnified.
Is it worth the breach of trust?
That small moment of peace
Tenuous as you know it to be
Fragile as an eggshell
Is the sacrifice of
Honor
Worth it?
There is a reason
That sayings exist
Even ones such as
"Death before Dishonor"

There are many examples like Barrack Hussain Obama in United States America, and Kevin Rudd and Juliea Gillard here in Australia.

If there's one thing I learn't about honor, like almost all things there is a yin and a yang to it.

You're right.  And it's hard to be honorable when faced with those who are not.  When people break their promises to you, what are you to do?  Do you keep your promises anyway, or are all bets off?

I feel that one must uphold the promises that they have sworn to do. even if it must bring pain. Honor isn't always a straight forward path but one that you forge from your knowledge and understanding.

Would you honor a promise even if it were made under false pretenses; that someone lied in order to secure your word?  Would you keep it if it brought more harm than good or caused the destruction of someone who doesn't deserve it? Would you honor it if the situation involved had changed so drastically that your actions are no longer beneficial in any way?

As you said, honor is not straightforward.  But nor is it black and white.

And again, brilliant. I don't see many people who think this way.

And that's unfortunately such a shame. It really is. The world would be better if this were the norm instead of the exception.

Definitely. But how can we change that when it seemst to be in the human nature? I mean, we learn to lie on our own. We have to be taught to tell the truth. We learn to cheat and steal, but have to be taught to follow rules and give generously. It's too bad that I can hardly imagine a world that's not the way it is now. Sad, right?

I wish everyone would live by these words... I'm lucky though, I know two guys (you and my boyfriend) who both believe strongly in maintaining their own ethical code...

As long as there's people like you in this world, no one can say chivalry is dead

Thank you. Knowing there are people who respect me for my ideas instead of deride me for them helps me find the strength to soldier on.

Death before dishonor indeed. You're probably one of the most noble and honorable men I know, and this poem is such a testament to the virtue you possess!

It's so refreshing to see someone that resolved in their ethics. Well done, sir.

And yes, being honest is important, even if at times it ends up being brutal.
