Description
Well I've finished my Dragoon MK2 Design. Hopefully I will be able to sculpt the body out of green stuff and send it off to be cast after that my Dragoons can be fielded and my Necron army can be saved.-- !NOTE! --
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE ZANATORIAN ARMY AND PROITEUS' OVERALL DESIGN ANY COMMENTS BOTH POSTIVE AND NEGATIVE WOULD BE APPRECATED!

On the whole I like this better than the original design. Less necron-ie, a bit less cheesy looking.

To me the old design seemed extremely offputting. I suppose it was that all of the different parts to it did not really appear to be parts of a single machine but rather that they appeared to be just a bunch of different objects put together. in other words, it laked unity of design (I'm sure I butchered that term there.) and was too fragmented. This redesign fixes most of the elements that I didn't like about the older design (The elements of the head all seem to belong to the same object now.).
My only suggestion with how to possibly make it better and more sinister is to try a different configuration for the model. Here is my idea. As it stands right now, the dragoon looks like a hovering bot with a weapon grafted unnaturally underneath it. While this makes it look less like something made for war, it also makes it look less sinister and makes you wonder just how it flies and how the weapon is connected to the main body. So my idea for how you could possibly change this is to flip the main body of the head upside down and to move the gun into the head. Move the eyes to a less human position (ie: bigger eyes below smaller ones, and have them further apart to the sides of the gun.)
There is also the possibiliy of your just using the gun from the necron models as the base for the model without cutting the midsection away. My idea with this is that you use some plasticard and puddy to make the head with the same shap you have right now over the underbar of the gauss rifle. Then ad the blades at some point along the bottom and the tubes on the top. You would also have room to add arms or mechadendrites or whatever you like. Try it out with one and see what you think, I think that it would end up being a lot more substantive and less "funny" looking and it would be easier for you to make. You could also try to use more of the necron sprue bits, like just the torso or the pelvis section, to expand on this idea and make things look more high tech and less human built. As another idea too, you could use a scarab model as a base for the plasticard conversion part. Damn, now I really want to try building one of these, I wonder if anyone has any spare necrons in the local gaming club.

mmm would you care to design some alternative Dragoons then, just remember the following when designing them.
1. It must be based off the current design or a necron warrior conversion.
2. Must keep the same appearance as most of the Zanatorian Miniatures.
3. Must have a gauss blaster and must resemble the look of necron tech.
Up for havin a go?

Sure, I'll ask around and see if I can round up a necron warrior sprue or two. The current plan is to have a 1 for 1 conversion using just about all of the bits from a necron warrior to make it plus a little bit of puddy/plasticard and a flywing base. Should have non-human looking limbs for grasping and the fins will be made from the warrior's feet instead of space marine daggers (readily available bitz work way better I find with a little creativity.). I'll keep you posted and see what I can do, hope to have something in a week at the latest.
Cheers.

Okay just keep it simple cause it will make it easier to sculpt.
Plus I've been giving what you said more thought and it is a reasonable comment about how the gun is attacted, but if i moved it back more i would not be able to mount it on the flying base. Maybe if i painted the top of the stem black to look like part of the robot it would look less dodgy.
The reason why I want the Dragoon to be my troop choice for my mechanicus army was because it was Proiteus' first step towards becoming the Fifth Machine Lord which i why i want to feature it in my army...

I gotcha on your reasoning, also found one guy in the group who has necrons, I'll see if I can finagle one warrior from him for the conversion expirament.

could you give us some insight into your design idea?

I'll see about doing a quick sketch, somewhat heavily worked right now.

but isn't this the thing you can't even make now?

'redesign' I can't make the Dragoon robots because it's main torso is the GW tomb spyder head, so by designing a new component of the same size that looks similar but is different (if you get what i mean) to replace it I can legally cast no end of them without indangering myself to shall we say 'certain copyright issues' with GW
