On ARK it seemed like Shadow didn't fully understand who he was.I think Maria was in the habit of cheering him up from time to time.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle:
Shadow was created 50 years prior to the present in this game. you find out that he was created by Prof. Gerald Robotnik, who is Dr. Eggman's grandfather. on board the ARK, where Shadow was created, he had one friend named Maria Robotnik, Gerald's grandaughter. she had a serious illness caled NIDS, and the reason for Shadow was to find a cure for Maria. Shadow was created immortal, and had the power to control chaos energy. so basically, GUN [military] thought of Shadow to be too powerful, so they attacked ARK and shut it down. Maria was shot and killed in her attempt to save Shadow's life sending him down to earth. Shadow then was found on earth and put into chryogenic sleep. 50 years later he was released by evil Dr. Eggman, and together [with the help of Rouge] tried to take over the world. Shadow then remembers that Maria's wish was for him to save the world and make everyone happy, instead of bringing revenge. Shadow ends up giving up his own life for the world, [Sonic and Shadow in their super forms were against the Shadow Prototype] and Sonic returns to tell the team that Shadow didn't make it.
....sums up SA2B. there is also Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic the Hedgehog '06. those stories are shorter, haha sorry. do you wanna hear those too?

Shadow makes his return in this game. Rouge, his partner and his only friend for a long time, releases him from statis. Shadow doesn't remember a thing about him saving the world with Sonic from the last game. he doesn't even remember Maria. [sad]. pretty much in this game, 'Team Dark' [Shadow, Rouge, and a robot Omega] venture about to find out who Shadow really is. throughout the game Eggman keeps telling Shadow that he's an android clone of the Original Shadow he found. in the end of the game, Rouge finds out that the Shadow she's been traveling with is indeed an android clone made from the original who died falling to earth at the end of SA2B.
Sonic Battle:
side story, pretty much Shadow finds out that he is a living weapon with the soul of his past friend, Maria. whether or not if he's an android is still unknown.
Shadow the Hedgehog:
Shadow's own game!! [kinda dumb cuz he used weapons instead of his original spin attacks from the pasr games]. but still pretty good story line. in this game you are able to choose between good and evil, but in the end comes only one solution. Shadow goes through the whole game trying to figure out what he is: an android, a savior to humanity, or destroyer of the world. pretty much at the end of the game, Eggman informs Shadow that he's the original Shadow who fell from ARK in SA2B, and Eggman found him and revived him. it boosts Shadow's spirit, and he defeats the aliens. who threatened Earth.
Sonic the Hedgehog '06:
Shadow's story in this game is to find and destroy the evil Mephiles the Dark. at one point, Mephiles tries to persuade Shadow to join him, for he shows Shadow what his future beholds: the humans soon think of Shadow as a threat, so they destroy him and capture him in a statis chamber thing. Shadow accepts his fate but still stands by his promise and purpose to protect humanity.
that's pretty much the end of the line so far...haha. waiting for the next epic game.
