Oh man! I haven't thought about it but that's really exciting to think about! It was cool when Strickland finally came to the realization of why this fellow was revered as a god.Β

I Actually haven't seen Amelie yet but I hear nothing but good things about it. Defiantly gotta check that one out! I don't really see much comparison in the Shape of Water to Avatar.Β If the main gal in Avatar fell in love with the main guy while he was still human form and in a wheelchair before any of his transformations then that movie would start to compare.Β The shape of water is like Beauty and the Beast if Belle had told the beast she loved him to late and he stayed in a beast form forever but they remain in love. It was truly unique to anything that came before it and I hope there are more like it from now on! Β

Well there's a version of the story of Beauty and the Beast where the Beast-man was born from a tribe of crytpid cat people and it's the 80s Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton tv show and this movie has more in common with the TV show than the Disney or any film version which in the Disney version/1946 versions which are transformation stories i accept asΒ i'm glad he was cured of his condition as he wanted to end his cursed sickness for 10 years, so good for Prince Adam but for Vincent in the 80s TV show version (which can be seen on amazon dot com prime) you cannot change the way he is since he was born that way from a different race of people who are and look different.
With the ending to Shape of Water being a moralistic and unique ending of not having Elisa not having her form physically turn into the same race as the aqua Xeno humanoid man, i think it's how Avatar by James Cameron should had ended! i mean the ending to that movie was so damned racist in undertone as i think Jake should had let his avatar die and had him either genetically inject him with nanites to help him breath the air/atmosphere/digest the water/food on Pandora or have Eynwa or Eyena (whatever) to give him new lungs magically to help him breath/eat the stuff/drink water then Neyitiri would accept him for who he is and not how he looks which would had been a more moralistic ending on "how you look isn't important but by the content of your character" instead of physically changing his form to become the same race as Neyitiri at the end and i hated that ending. I don't like segreation endings to stories that have human X furry/Xeno /mutant romance stories like say Avatar as Avatar is like taking the 1967 comedy-drama classic with Sidney Poiter known as Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (seen that movie?Β it's about an African-American man who is dating a white woman she brings him home to her parents and the movie centers around them learning to accept that he is only a person) and if you take that movie and have Sidney Poiter magically turn into a white man in the end so it can satisfy the notions of the parents as they wouldn't accept anything. I mean it would had been faster to fix Jake's legs and give him nanintes as with all the genetic technology they had, those avatars were a waste of resources/time/effort/money etc.
Afterall Xenos (strange form of folk whether they are furry or alien even from space or mutant or magical creature person ala a Gargoyle), furries (animal-like humanoid beings like on Bojack Horseman or furry art or in Swat Kats) or mutants (like X-Men's and Marvels or Cheetah on Justice League ) aren't always the "inferior" beings the mainstream media would sometimes portray as in stories, they are to me and one of my friends on DA who is a very talented and well known internet Sci-fi/fantasy artist named Hatton Slayden as "people who are and look different" metaphorically and represent race as humans in stories are not alone or the only race there is, I don't really consider the love of Elisia and the Xeno man as "beastiality" which is the same thing they use to say in colonial and slavery being legal times as they thought mixing ethnicity was consdiered "beastiality" and besides beasitality is only if someone of humanoid (Terrapians which we earthlings are called, Xeno, furry or mutant) would sexually hurt a 4 legged ordinary regular animal creature from a pet store like an ordinary feral dog creature as that would be wrong like if he screwed the cats as humanoids only consent/romance to other humanoids even us in stories as humanoids in stories have pheromones to make other intelligent humanoids attracted to intelligent humanoids who are different. We on earth are all humanoids which our code name is humanoid and the Xeno man i believe is an alien humanoid god who came to earth a thousand years ago and has survived for many years as he came from a race of Xenos from another planet as he is treated like dirt because he speaks a very alien language but can speak in sign language and the way he looks, no different than in the 19th century when slavery was legal as someone with darker colored skin (negros and middle easterns) were not considered human in the eyes of the law when the white man considered themselves "superior" (Despite giving Asians a pass for "looking white") while considering dark colored people as "inferior". The scientists/people who captured him thought of him as an "animal" or "creature" or "monster" nope, only ignorants that line blurred. basically boils down to cognitive abilities verses looks
And yes i can blame them because of the blatant intent behind their arguments. bullying and domination. No different than a book that was published in the south long ago by Buckner Payne when slavery still legally existed and was a guide to why people of different skin color were not human especially based on their noses and penises that were larger than a white man's. Here is another tidbit to think on: when the US still had slavery, who were the people most likely to have secret love affairs with the slaves when they had "beastiality" laws not to forndicate with the slaves? the people who wanted them free and treated as equals? or the slave owners who told everyone they slaves were just 'mindless monkeys" or when Hitler didn't consider the Jews to be human but as "rats" even with pamphlets that were passed out in Nazi germany on why Jews aren't human. Shape of Water is not only set in 1962 with some history but has a bit of 19th century in slavery in metaphor of "people who are and look different".Β
Me and one of myΒ favorite artists named Hatton Slayden (He is a very talented Sci-fi/fantasy artist/painterΒ here on DA and other sites who makes artworks of Science fiction and fantasy worlds even some fan art to artworks of Xeno/furry/mutant people mostly females of different races who romances Earth humanoid males to overcome racial differences as a metaphor and statement) share similar values. He was raised by his parents not to be a bigot/racist/judge anyone how they look (whether it's their color or ethnicity or different cultural background etc.) but as equals with different skills and abilities, just like how entertainment on people who are different (Alien Nation, Gargoyles, X-Men TAS/comics, the 80s Beauty and the Beast show, Star Trek, Elephant Man etc.) taught me growing up to treat those who are different than me (whether it's their disabilities or skin color or ethnicity or appearance or gender or deformity etc.) with respect/dignity. What makes us human or rather humanoid or "person"? the way we look even if there are other races of beings in the universe who look different than us Earthlings or what our skin color/hair/eyes are? i think being different is not a bad thing.
Afterall in general fiction like Warcraft the movie (human X orc romance where they produced a half human/half orc offspring plus a half-orc/half human woman romances a human male), Bojack Horseman (furry X furry plus human X furry romances even a terrapien aka earth human man married to a lovely humanoid deer Xeno woman as they have 2 kids), Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who (the lesbian lovers one alien lizard humanoid woman and one earth human woman), Cheetah X Batman on Justice League (a literal cat-woman who's a mutant humanoid being and a regular earth human man), Eliza and Goliath on Gargoyles, Hatton Slayden's artworks of human males romancing Xeno/furry/mutant females, Voltron Defender's Hunk and Shay (Xeno from space and earth human male), Hepzibah/Corsair in X-Men TAS/Marvel comics (Cyclop's human father with a sexy alien furry skunk cat woman), Minerva Mink and a human male in one of my friends's fanfiction story series (to show love has no bounds between a humanoid mink woman and a regular terrapien human man and both are consenting adults mind you), Beast and Carly on X-Men TAS, Regular Show's Margaret's parents (earth human male and Xeno humanoid bird woman), Lilandra and Professor Xavier (alien bird woman and mutant earth man), Mass Effect, Skyrim video games, the 80s Beauty and the Beast TV show with Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton, Wolf Children's Hana and her wolf-man husband, Alien Nation's Cathy and Matt etc. and i see these as metaphors/allegories for inter-ethnic romance in aspects. As i believe all humanoids share similar DNA even us with other Xenos in the universe in stories. I'm glad the "Avataring" is gone as we have human X furry/xeno/mutant romance in mainstream media lately outside internet artworks/fanfiction even human male X furry/Xeno/mutant romance (which i prefer over the human female X Xeno/furry/mutant male thing) as Hatton Slayden's artworks are very influential and inspiring in their messages of overcoming differences of two consenting adults who look different.
Afterall it was a nice moralistic story no doubt and a good ending without having to be bigoted like Avatar's ending. And Prince Lir did said it best with his brilliant sentiment in the movie/book of The Last Unicorn when he was romancing the beautiful Lady Amalthea (the unicorn turned into a Terrapien earth human in physical form) as she developed human feelings for him. He spoke this great quote when he was told about her secret of who she really is. See my signature which is one of my fave quotes.
